kennydiaz (182), staten island, New York, USA Dec 28, 2008 POURS A NICE DARK BROWN COLOR WITH A CREAMY HEAD. VERY RICH CHOCOLATE STOUT TASTE. A VERY GOOD BEER. LtDan (470), LA - Originally from South NJ!, California, USA Dec 27, 2008 Fantastic dry chocolaty goodness. Not thin, not syrupy thick (which is what I imagined). Great chocolate flavors that balanced with a background of nice malts and modest spiciness. tarheels86 (700), Washington DC, USA Dec 27, 2008 750 mL. Pours a very dark brown with a beautiful three-finger tan head that barely fades away. Awesome lacing. Aroma of molasses, tobacco, dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, roasted malt. Taste is bitter with dark chocolate, mocha, roasted malt. Sort of acidic, long bitter finish. Feels like there is more than 7% here- almost like Kahlua. Velvety mouthfeel. No yeasty or Belgian notes....sad. boto (1319), Granby, Connecticut, USA Dec 26, 2008 750 ml bottle: This one poured a very opaque, dark brown color. There was almost no head on mine. The aroma is sweet cocoa, with possibly some hints of roastiness and smokiness. The taste is definitely creamy chocolate with some roastiness. I was surprised that it is only 7%: it tastes a bit richer than that. drjay44 (757), Salida, Colorado, USA Dec 25, 2008 750 ml. bottle. Shared with Gabe. Pours a thick mocha colored head, rapidly thinning, with exhuberant lacing, over an opaque body, that is black from the outside.....nose is sweet, coffee, caramel, chocolate, no floral.....tastes is coffee bitter chocolate.....mouth feel is chewy and creamy.....balance is fine....not as strong in any parameter as many, therefore not as good. AlabastorJones (761), San Francisco, California, USA Dec 25, 2008 No head, black body, sweet mocha trappist nose, dark rich chocolate flavor, burnt and roasty, alcohol seems higher than 7%, almost tastes bourbon barreled, bitter dark chocolate, very dry finish, warming, not picking up the belgian characteristics at all in the flavor, the yeast flavors most be completely overwhelmed by the roasty chocolate flavors that dominate this ale, a good hearty stout but tremendously over priced for what it is doboy (175), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Dec 25, 2008 Pours a dark mahogany color with a fine tan head. Smell is that of cocoa and coffee. Mouthfeel is very nice with a slight bittering. The Chocolates and coffee are promonant. Sits nice on the tongue. Bitterness on the backside is well balanced. A homerun from Cooperstown! Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA Dec 23, 2008 Aroma is fairly strong and smoky, mainly of roast coffee with hints of chocolate and a whisper of molasses. It pours an opaque sable like dark chocolate with a very thick, fine-bubbled tan head that hangs around for a while. Flavor is just simply superb, smoky and chocolaty with undertones of coffee, caramel and molasses. It is fairly sweet but not cloying, and there is a touch of hop bitterness that balances the sweetness nicely. Texture is smooth and bubbly, and it leaves a slightly sweet mocha aftertaste. Very festive, and a good dessert beer.
