GMUcrew7 (353), Mason, Ohio, USA Nov 27, 2008 Pours deep brown color, with flakes of yeast, and an impressive and lasting dark tan head. Nice full and complex aroma of roasted malt, spice and sweet cocoa and a hint of alcohol. Interesting flavor, not as impressive as the aromas. Warm roasted notes with cocoa. Smooth and creamy body, leaves a nice lacing behind. The appearance and aroma of this beer are a little misleading as the flavor is not as good as you might expect, but still not a bad beer. Une bonne stout assez bien balancé et plaisant à boire! drfabulous (1212), Columbia, Missouri, USA Nov 27, 2008 The ten year anniversary bottle. Sat for way over six months. You wouldn’t notice. Lots of chocolate in the nose. Pours a strong light brown head. Roast. And that slightly sour/sweet taste that follows really good stouts. Fantastic. MrEcted1 (144), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA Nov 26, 2008 Good chilled, much better at room temperature. All of the nice subtleties of this stout really come out at room temp. You can taste the high quality chocolate, the creaminess, the coffee. This is one of the most pleasing stouts to look at that I’ve ever had. Nice pillow for a head, pours nice and dark with ruby highlights. Overall a nice beer. McGarnigle (301), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 21, 2008 Corked bottle. Very dark brew, lots of lacing. Nice creamy body. As others mention, it doesn’t scream chocolate. The Belgian yeast seems to add its expected notes, but that’s very subtle. On the dry side. Good stout, but not too far out of the norm. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Nov 20, 2008 750mL bottle purchased at the Pole Line Nugget in Davis, CA. I get a lot of doughiness in the aroma. Obviously, there is quitea bit of sweet chocolate and roasty flavors present, too. A little yeast funk. Mildly transparent dark dark brown color with a medium tan head, which leaves nice lacing and is long-lasting. This starts and maintains a pretty sweet, sugary chocolate flavoring throughout. There is a little roastiness in the middle. The finish has a bit of a dusty yeast flavor, consistent with a Belgian yeast strain. Very lightly hopped to finish. Pretty straight forward. Not terrible, but not amazing, either. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours a dark chocolate color with a tall head that lingers. Superb lacing. Aromas of roasted coffee and chocolate. Medium nectar with ample carbonation. Good flavor concentration with a high roasted coffee and cocoa presence. The finish lingers with superb bittering.
taalhiker (179), Dayton, Ohio, USA Nov 20, 2008 From bottle. Pours dark black with small tan head. Aromas of dark fruit and chocolate. Very muddled appearance due to the chocolate. Smooth finish with decent length.
