Flavor matches with some roasted dark malts showing up in the finish. Palate is dusty. Tasty enough but not something I would want to drink very much of. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2008 Bottle from South Bay Drugs. Appearance was an appetizing dark black stout with fat head of foam. The initial nose is a dark roasted malt with minimal hints at chocolate or margarine. In the flavor there is a crisp roasted malt profile that surprisingly isn’t very strong or over bearing, however, the amount of chocolate present is insufficient to the title of the beer. I do taste a light background of chocolate milk but it’s just not enough than the caliber I had expected. Finish is dry and has a light creamy smooth palate. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Sep 26, 2008 A very delicious stout. Imperial stouts kind of trained my brain to expect every stout to be over the top boozy and undrinkable. This beer helps me remember that a stout can be drinkable and full of flavor without being too alcoholic. Aroma was OK. Bitter roasted malt and just a hint of chocolate. Pour was perfect. A deep dark brown with a huge pillowy tan head that looks like it could hold a penny if you dropped it on there. Taste was all roasted malt. Could not pick up much chocolate in the front but the aftertaste makes you feel like you just ate coffee crusted dark chocolate candy. Very nice. beergod (100), Austin, Texas, USA
