Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Sep 19, 2009 Shared with Ty and Brent on a night I’d rather forget. Pours a perfect jet black with terrific lacing and large pillowtop brown head. Nose of chocolate with hints of cherry. Flavor is mildly roasty, with some smoke notes, and a cocoa powder finish. Perfect creamy chewy full body. Delicious beer. Great with a cigar. imusbeer (4), Lawrenceville (Atlanta), USA does not count Sep 16, 2009 Drank this at Home from a 22oz bottle poured into a goblet.
Poured very dark with minimal tan to light brown head very persistant but minutes later had died to just patches. Lacing occured mainly at the top.
The first inkling of aroma was vinegar to me like olives then some cocoa,
The taste was mainly malty cocoa with slight bitterness at the end.
Mouthfeel was warm and thick
phaleslu (423), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 13, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown/black with a medium tan head that leaves some lacing. Aroma of chocolate, roast, malt, toast, brown sugar. Flavor follows suit, rich and very smooth. Medium body. Dry finish. It would take a while to knock down one of the 22 oz. bottles alone but great to share. dolemike1 (1116), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 3, 2009 I think the 570 previous raters have adequately stated that this beer is chocolatey and who the hell would have guessed that by the name. stobbe74 (655), Denmark Sep 2, 2009 Sampled at DØE Beerfestival 2009, Valby. Pours a pitch black beer with a firm lightbrown head. The aroma is roasted malt, spices, rye and coffee. The flavor is chocolate, sweetness, licorice and coffee. The palate leaves roasted malts. Overall a good beer. KyotoLefty (1370), Kyoto, Japan Sep 1, 2009 Draught at the New York Wine and Culinary Center. Deep pitch black with a root beer float head. Aroma of cocoa and Belgian yeast. Slightly funky flavor with bitter dark chocolate; dry and powdery, with just enough sweetness and a bitter, slightly sour finish. An interesting Belgian style stout, though not quite there. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Aug 17, 2009 750ml bottle from the liquor store in Tyngsborro, Mass. Pours an opaque dark brown/black body with around an inch of light tan head that slowly dissipates leaving some lacing. Roasty dark chocolate dominates the aroma, toasty, slightly burnt malt. Medium in body with ample carbonation. Flavor is definitely roasty and toasty, somewhat sweet, dark chocolate-like, slightly burnt, coffee... Baker’s chocolate comes to mind... Dry on the finish, with roastiness dominating. Slightly smokey? Complex and roasty for sure, though not quite as chocolatey as the name would suggest IMO. Still a very solid Belgian-style stout, and one I’d definitely get again. yesyouam (587), Fairport, New York, USA Aug 17, 2009 Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence is an opaque brown-black ale with a huge, fluffy, lumpy light brown head. The retention and lacing are outstanding. It smells like roasted chocolate with a touch of green, leafy, grassy hops. It’s pretty full bodied, smooth and minerally with a slightly astringent finish. It tastes lightly sweet and lightly bitter. It’s well balanced. There is a dry, bitter chocolate flavor with a touch of fruity sweetness, kind of like eating dark chocolate. It’s very good, but it doesn’t seem too polished.
