phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jun 24, 2008 Very tastey beer. Im glad i picked it up! Pours a dark black colour with a huge frothy tan head. Very carbonated, aroma is sweet and enticing, lots of chocolate, touch of coffee and toffee. Sweet, but not over powering. Creamy and chocolatey with a smooth dry finish. LilBeerDoctor (1479), East Setauket, New York, USA Jun 23, 2008 Updated: Dec 21, 2008On tap at the Ginger Man. Pours black with a dark tan head with decent lacing. Looks very pretty in the snifter it was served in. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor of coffee, rich roasted malt. Light body at first, which becomes heavier as it warms. Very sweet already, but I would like to see more chocolate in this. A very good stout nonetheless. 8/5/7/4/14
Update 12/21/08: Bottle. Lots of roasted nuts, peanuts, roasted malt in this one. Not much chocolate. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Yum!! Bumped this up a point. 8/4/8/4/15 fredandboboflo (1392), East Setauket, New York, USA Jun 22, 2008 On tap at Ginger Man. Aroma of rich semi-sweet chocolate, roasted malt, coffee. This is the third time I’ve had this, and the flavor turned a bit more to sweet/artificial chocolate than I had remembered. Still nothing arrestingly negative about it though, so I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Mouthfeel remains silky smooth throughout. Very nice. Dogbrick (2807), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 17, 2008 Sample at the Most Honorable SuperHappyFun Stout Tasting. Pours opaque black with a medium tan head that recedes steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is chocolate and dark malts. Medium-bodied and smooth with flavors of chocolate, roasted malt and anise. Smooth finish with lingering chocolate malt aftertaste. Overall this beer definitely suffered a bit by being sampled after Choklit Indulgence. Decent, but not really something I would seek out again. TheElder (49), DeSoto, Wisconsin, USA Jun 15, 2008 Late alcohol burn in this particular drink. Overwhelming, watery chocolate. Reminds me, personally, of something you would use in a mix drink. Not for me. jimhilt (1663), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Jun 14, 2008 Pours a two finger thick brown head that fades slowly and leaves a good lace. Black as midnight. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Chocolate nose. Flavor is a rich unsweetened chocolate with a bakers chocolate finish. Nice beefy stout. $11.49 for a 750ml bottle from Yankee Spirits South Attleboro, Ma. vaughn (4), miamisburg, Ohio, USA does not count Jun 7, 2008 chocolate and coffe...how can I complain...would recommend to anyone who likes roasted malt ales with a dry cocoa finish radiomgb (1920), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jun 7, 2008 Dark brown in colour, large and lingering biege coloured head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of light chocolate, some coffee, mildly sweet, light roast. The flavour is a little creamy, lightly roasty, some toffee sweetness, dark chocolate, lightly bitter, chalky. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with some cocoa sweetness, lingering.
This is okay but like many of the Ommegang beers that I have tried this grew rather tiresome.
750ml bottle obtained in a trade with TheCheeseMan, thanks Dan.
