Reminds me, personally, of something you would use in a mix drink. Not for me. jimhilt (1673), Bow, New Hampshire, USA

Black as midnight. Good carbonation and heavy bodied. Chocolate nose. Flavor is a rich unsweetened chocolate with a bakers chocolate finish. Nice beefy stout. $11.49 for a 750ml bottle from Yankee Spirits South Attleboro, Ma. vaughn (4), miamisburg, Ohio, USA does not count | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Jun 7, 2008 chocolate and coffe...how can I complain...would recommend to anyone who likes roasted malt ales with a dry cocoa finish radiomgb (1957), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 7, 2008 Dark brown in colour, large and lingering biege coloured head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of light chocolate, some coffee, mildly sweet, light roast. The flavour is a little creamy, lightly roasty, some toffee sweetness, dark chocolate, lightly bitter, chalky. Sweet mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes with some cocoa sweetness, lingering.
This is okay but like many of the Ommegang beers that I have tried this grew rather tiresome.
750ml bottle obtained in a trade with TheCheeseMan, thanks Dan.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 5, 2008 750ml Pours a super dark brown with a decent tan head. The aroma is chocolate. I was a little bummed to discover it wasn’t very aromatic or complex. It’s pretty much standard chocolate stout fare in the nose. The flavor is more chocolate with a bit of roast. Only buried in the finish do I detect something that may hint at fruitier territory. Hey, this is a decent slightly dry chocolate stout. However, coming from Ommegang, I expected some Belgian character to it or at least something more robust and flavorful. I don’t like the cost to flavor ratio on this one. Kind of expensive for what it is. daknole (2885), Plantation, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 2, 2008 Bottle brought back from brewery by my neighbor. Thanks BUMPER! Beer pours a black color with a foamy brown head that leaves wonderful lacing. Aroma is (surprise) chocolate and more chocolate. Flavor is a slightly sweet chocolate, sweet coffee and roasted malt. Good beer. Boutip (2346), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 2, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Kryptic: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a huge foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma is totally dominated by loads of chocolate malt notes with some subtle sweetness. Taste is a mix between some huge chocolate notes with some light sweet notes. Body is slightly thin for the style with a nice creamy texture thought and some good carbonation. Alcohol was not apparent. Overall, a very interesting experiment by this fine brewery but lacking some character and maybe some lactose to be truly inspiring. twitcher (293), framingham, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 2, 2008 (from notes) Pretty thin and watery on the palate, minimal body. Chocolate flavors on the sparse side, relatively weak for the name. Sweet milk chocolatey flavors over top of a thin, weak-bodied stout. Not bad, just not as exciting as one would expect.
