Nice dark look with a light brown head. At first sniff not much chocolate just roasted malt and dark burnt coffee with hints of bitterness. The taste has some bitter chocolate but the chocolate is not what shines. Very roasty and has a little lingering bitterness.

Roasted malt nose. Black body with cherry undertones. Deep tan colored head with ample lace which clings to glass. Flavors include roasted malt - coffee and dark cocoa. Long bitter finish.

Got this in a three bottle gift set with a Ommegang glass, poured into tulip and trappist glasses, pours brown black with dark ruby at the edges, has a decent foamy tan and/or dark tan head that thins out a little but keeps a good cover on the drink, I let this sit in a trappist glass for a bit and the bubbly cover was still there, left nice lacing on the glass to, lots of chocolate and roasted dark malt in this brew, some dry dark chocolate, some coffee and faint aroma of liquor which has a resemblance of wood whiskey, the liquor adds to this drink to, it is in the background and does not dominate at all, has a touch of sweetness on the nose, taste follows the aroma lots of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some licorice in the background, a hint of sweetness, has some roasted malt and hop(?)bitterness at the finish, I thought all of the flavors came together well, has a medium or maybe a touch more mouth feel, has a creamy feel on the tongue, a very nice stout.

It has a dark brown almost black colored murky body that’s very opaque. The head is thick and frothy with rocky peaks and a tan color. The aroma is malty, toasted and has only a very faint hint of cocoa powder. There are dark toasted and roasted malt flavors with hints of bittersweet chocolate dust and some espresso coffee notes as well. There is a modest hop flavor that adds some bitterness to the finish, which also has a slight metallic touch to it. The texture is smooth and a little bit thin on the palate with a good carbonation and a medium body. I have had this at Brewery Ommegang during the 2007 Waffles and Puppets event and I don’t remember it having any metallic flavor to it. Overall I still enjoied it and look forward to having more of it at this years Waffles and Puppets.

Bottle. Very dark brown with a large, fluffy, tan head. Aroma is roasty with delicious dark chocolate notes and a slightly sour tinge. Medium bodied. Flavour is rich but not overly complex, just a really well-integrated combination of roasted stout flavours, dark chocolate, and a slight Belgian ale character. The more of these Belgian-style stouts I have, the more I really like them...

Frothy head is huge, beer pours very dark. Chocolate shows up in the nose along with roasty malts. Creamy, satiny mouthfeel. Complex series of flavor, with the chocolate notes kicking in at the back end of the swallow. An outstanding stout.

Poured black with a huge, thick, creamy brown head. Rich, roasty chocolate aroma. Flavor is creamy, rich and roasty with a light metalic flavor at the end. Good beer!

Medium black with a light brown head that lingers. Nice smell of bitter cocoa with roasted malts. Light to medium body. Has a mild chocolate flavor with some mild roasted malts. Not too bad.
