Scent is a faint chocolate with a little fruitiness to it. At first I was not to impressed with the taste, but the after taste is where the full flavor kicks in. Tastes like the end of a bitter dark chocolate after it melts in your mouth and slowly drips down your throat. Absolutely delicious. I savored every last drop of this. bfeldmann (1042), Wilmington, Delaware, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Mar 28, 2008 Expected more from this brewery. Poured a dark dark brown with chocolate head. Aroma was very smokey coffee chocolate. Flavor roasted chocolate and bad coffee, hint of metallicness to it. Not good for me at all.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 27, 2008 Pours deep brown with oatmeal colored head that lingers. Nose is noticeably clove, cookie dough and malt. Flavor is a bit like a sugar cookie, spice and a slight malt influence. Almost no chocolate to be found. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 24, 2008 Pours dark brown with a large, cookie-brown head. Awesome roasty, toasty, chocolaty nose with just a touch of Belgian spice. The flavor is decadent semi-sweet chocolate through and through. It gets somewhat smoky on the finish, which is too quick to disappear. Good stuff. allfreej (358), Louisville, Kentucky, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Bottled. Pours opaque, black, with a brown foamy head that left a persistant lace film on the glass. The nose was roasty and malty, with definitie cocoa notes. Flavor was chocolate, roasted malt, and sweet coffee. The finish was dry, with a thin, mildly carbonated mouthfeel. Dorwart (1812), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Decent sized brown head of fine bubbles. Light carbonation. Nice and chocolaty aroma. Milk chocolate, sweet malts, molasses and some roastyness. Color is a very dark chocolaty brown. Mild chocolate in the flavor. Lots of roasted grains, some herbal flavors (parsley) and a dry bitterness late swallow. A quick blast of metallic precedes each sip. Normally this dissipates after a couple of sips but this is tending to stick around for a while. Light coffee also. Finishes dry and chocolaty with some lingering herbal spicy notes. I realize that this is a "belgian" stout but this combination of flavors and textures is not appealing to me. Ommegang is a fantastic brewer and I usually love their stuff but this is not one of their better brews. Maybe after it wams a bit I will revisit the rating. SledgeJr (2960), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 22, 2008 In the bomber bottle from Gravity in Olympia WA. Black in color with a medium-thick dark beige head. Intense chocolate aroma that also has some interesting smokiness. The chocolate stout-like flavor is clearly dominant, but I had expected a bigger mouthfeel and a creamier palate filled with explosions of chocolate for the $13 price tag. dwyerpg (2529), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 20, 2008 This is good stuff. Not real strong in the chocolate, neither in the nose nor flavor, but it’s there and the subtelty is quite nice. Smooth and tasty.
