billk (300), Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, USA Feb 8, 2008 Tap @ TJ’s Paoli. Belgiany right off the bat. Rather sweet with a noticeably chocolate & roasted caramel/toffee candy flavor. Into medium bodied. Nice smooth meld of flavors. RblWthACoz (963), Brooklyn, New York, USA Feb 4, 2008 Pours opaque with a tan head that doesn’t really stick around long. Nose is firm chocolate tones. Not much else going on besides that cocoa powder character. Flavor is a very rich chocolate. Complex? No. A chocolate stout with a Belgian flair? Yes. Feel is smooth on the liquid and has a nice level of carbonation to it. The verdict? Try it if you have the chance. ajm (902), Los Angeles, California, USA Feb 4, 2008 Updated: Dec 16, 2008Bottle from Jubilation. The chocolate is primarily milk chocolate notes - I am not sure how indulgent that is. However, the full effect of the ale is of a nice quad with smoother inclinations than spice and dark fruit. Not bad. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Feb 3, 2008 Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, and not much alcohol. Flavor is strong of the roasted malts and coffee, dark chocolate, molasses, and some dark fruit. Very delcoious. MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Feb 2, 2008 on tap at the blind tiger, 10/24/07. black body, dark tan/light brown dimply head. aroma is smoky dark roasted malt, some baking chocolate. flavor starts dark roasted malt, very bitter, and gets more bitter w/ hops. malt gets a little sweeter in the middle and goes a bit smoky then finishes bitter. Ungstrup (14724), Frederiksberg, Denmark Feb 2, 2008 Tried this both on draft at GABF 2007 and bottled, thanks to Theis. A dark brown beer with a red shine under a lazing tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of chocolate and roasted malt, the roasted malt also giving it an edge of acidity. The flavor is sweet with notes of cocoa and chocolate, as well as a touch of metal in the bottle which I didn’t detect on draft, leading to a dry roasted and bitter finish, with an acidic note from the roasted malt lingering. I prefer the draft version slightly over the bottled version, differens 0.2. Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA Feb 1, 2008 On tap at HDG. Really thick head. Aroma is nutty and caramel to the point where you would swear there is a candy bar under your nose. Taste theres a bit metalic flavor which seems to step on everything else. I’ve had this numerous times and time was not kind. KimJohansen (6645), Copenhagen V, Denmark Feb 1, 2008 Updated: Jun 8, 2009[Courtesy of Theis] Dark brown with large light brown head. Sweet aroma with malty notes. Flavor is dominated by metallic notes.
