BuckeyeSammy (454), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jan 25, 2008 Nicely carbianted. Aroma not overpowering, chocolate/ dark coffee. So well balenced. No flavor in this beer was overpowering. DARK color, light brown head. not pitch dark. Very little lacing. Not too thick. Starts creammy, ends very light. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jan 25, 2008 750, corked and baled. Pours jet black with a thick, rocky tan head that leaves intermittent cumuls lacing striated around the sides of the glass. Nice mild semi-sweet chocolate nose. Medium body with verrrry soft carb. More chocolate on the mid-palate. Clean dry finish. This beer wins no points for originality or complexity, but it’s well-done, very easy to drink, and shows its quality at every turn. No matter what, I’ll just keep coming out about in the middle for a score on this beer, so I’m gonna quit trying wrestle with figuring out exactly what I think of it. ’S pretty good. That’ll work. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA Jan 24, 2008 On tap at the Blue Nile in Minneapolis. Very dark brown pour with a finger thick head that reminds you of hot chocolate. Roasted malt aroma with shaved dark chocolate and cocoa. Very smooth body. The flavor is not as strong in the chocolate feel as the aroma. There may be some dark fruit and maybe black walnut in here. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Jan 23, 2008 draft at San Diego Brewing Co. - Pours very dark brown with a thin, tan head that laces nicely. It has a chocolate and roast malt aroma. I’m surprised at all the reviews saying the chocolate is subtle as I thought the flavor was sweet and bursting with chocolate. It has a medium to full body and a smooth, silky mouthfeel. Some mild bitterness comes through in the roast accented finish. TheEpeeist (1427), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 23, 2008 25.4 oz bottle. Dark brown with a slim, tan head and lacy strands. Nose is yeasty with faint cocoa. Starts creamy but yields to a medium carb. Taste is lightly tart dilute coffee, like the foam of a latte. Chocolate comes through in the end. Pleasant but quite restrained. Gachupines (290), USA Jan 22, 2008 Black with a lingering tan head. Aroma is malty with a slight hint of dark chocolate. Flavor is malty, and a little bitter like an average stout. There’s a bit of a bittersweet finish to it as well. Chocolate flavors are subdued and hard to notice at first. I could deal with more chocolate flavor in this one especially with the name given to it. Generally, this is a fairly pleasant beer, but I was a bit disappointed in it. Arayaga2 (932), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 22, 2008 Brown black with fluffy tan head. Malty brown aroma with a generically stouty and semi-bitter nutty taste. Cocoa seems a bit of an afterthought, and is rendered too subtle by the very vi-gorose carbonation. 19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Jan 20, 2008 Poured into proper Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence glassware; nice touch. Deep dark brown-black with a head of tan mousse. Malty aromas with firm sweetness plus the bonus of cocoa and roastiness. Mild yeasty tone in the rear of the flavor. Chocolate becomes quiet and shy as I go on. Dark fruitiness appears. Dry finish with a twang of yeast. Creamy feel. Tasty. Happy 10th!
