pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 2, 2008 Dark dark brown to black with a thick light brown head. Creamy. Cocoa powder? Dry light subtle sweetness, not a lot going on. Creamy full mouthfeel. Light body. Not bad, but not good. Cocoa power in particular sticks out. Not huge flavor. Maybe a slight Belgian twinge. A bit sweet. Not distinctive or really that good. Bitter roast finish. Braudog (3733), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jan 2, 2008 Caged and corked, this pours just as you’d expect ... full and black with a red tinge and a full but quickly dwindling top of tan foam. The aroma is thin but hints at a sweet treat. Unfortunately this fails to deliver the oomph that I’d expected in this $14 bottle. I strain to detect just a thin gritty bit of baking chocolate, and otherwise this struggles to compete with the better stouts ... definitely a let down. (#3265, 1/2/2008) yjb (110), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jan 2, 2008 Remember when you got your great bar of chocolate? You moved past that plastic Hersheys crap that was filled with cheap candle wax. So sweet and rich... just lovely. This beer is like then going back to that generic crap... chocolate junk. Too bad. Modestly better with warming, but still a bummer. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA Jan 1, 2008 Bottle: Black in color, very slight hue of dark brown on the edges, large frothy light brown head, spotty lacing.   Straw/Hay on
the nose, very slight cocoa, touch of toasted malts, a little dank.   Seems a little unassuming, at least moreso than I expected.
Nose is quite subtle.   Flat pale cocoa flavor on the tongue.   I cannot stress enough the word FLAT!   Not what I was expecting
at all, overall too subtle and fairly thin.   Body and mouthfeel are much less than expected.   Very slight astringency on the
backside, enough to almost shadow the weak cocoa aspects of this beer.   As a Foreign Stout I say HOGWASH!   For a 10th Anniversary
it sure is lacking.   Finishes like pond water, muddled, dirty, and astringent.   Very uninteresting, and at $13 a bottle its
outrageously overpriced.   Finding it difficult to finish.   I was really looking forward to this beer, but it was an extreme
letdown.   Don’t waste your money on this one.
mcox90 (617), Wilton, USA Jan 1, 2008 750ml bottle shared with a friend. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a 2 finger tan head. Nose is a hint of chocolate, malt and coffee. Flavor is the same as nose with a taste of that belgian yeast. Very unique! corby112 (671), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 1, 2008 Updated: Jan 5, 2008Pours a deep dark brown with huge tan foamy head. Beautiful roasted chocolate malt aroma with hints of coffee, alcohol and fruit. Roasted chocolate maltiness with hints of coffee, toffee and a well balanced alcohol pesence. Very tasty. FROTHINGSLOSH (1961), GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 31, 2007 Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a huge dark brown head. The aroma was sweet roasty malts and light chocolate. The flavor is creamy yet lightly bitter roasty malts with a light yeasty undertone and a silky chocolate element that grows and remains long into the very long finish. There is a bit of a tanginess and bitterness that comes out towards the end. The mouthfeel is exceptionally silky yet not overly thick. Very interesting. shrubber85 (2832), Wallhalben, Germany Dec 30, 2007 Bottle. Chocolate malt aroma - mildly astringent. Dark reddish brown color with small head. Chalky chocolate malt flavor. A bit rough and on the weaker side.
