boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Dec 16, 2007 poured a dark, muddy red/brown color. small brown head. Aroma of chocolate and malt. Thick Palate. A complex flavor of sweet chocolate and malt and alcohol. csbosox (1076), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA Dec 16, 2007 750ml bottle. Roasty aroma, kinda chalky at first. It would seem the beer needs a little time to release the aroma which is roasty, dark fruits, alcolhol, highly kilned malt (burnt, or bordering on burnt), light cocoa and light coffee. Highly carbonated. Taste is roasty and astringent, with hints of lactose and a light, seemingly one dimensional (read generic brand, none of the complexities that you can get out of good cocoa) bakers chocolate and the office coffee pot around noon when the liquid has turned into a thick syrup with equal parts cheap coffee and char. There is also a yeasty aspect to the beer even though the ring of yeast is undisturbed at the bottom of the bottle. I had one of these (I bought two bottles, one in Chicago and one in KC) last night at a party and was unimpressed, as was the wife, but that was after several other beers. I fully expected to love this beer and I was very unimpressed. DaSilky1 (1932), San Diego, California, USA Dec 15, 2007 dark with a head of different shades of tan and brown...like those people that have pigment problems with their skin or birthmarks...kind of like an albino black person. The aroma certainly has tons of cocoa with some milkiness in the background. Some nice roasted malt notes also. Flavors have a little tinniness to them at the beginning, though the mouthfeel is pretty lucious. Some bitterness is there yet the dominant characteristic is chocolate. Pretty good for a chocolate beer. railcat1 (578), Orlando, Florida, USA Dec 15, 2007 On tap at FFF,this was a dark malty chocolate stout with a belgian type finish sweet and delightful, overall not a bad stout and this was a fine beer.CHEERS! Jvittorio4187 (255), Boardman, Ohio, USA Dec 15, 2007 Everything I have had from this brewer is good. On tap at Vintage Estates. Pours a VERY deep brown with a fluffy brown/white head. Roasty dark chocolate on the nose. Taste is of classic Ommegang (if you have had anything else from them you know what this taste is) with a hint of bakers chocolate. The chocolate become more appearant as it warms, but not "indulging". Finish is sweet and satisfying. Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Dec 15, 2007 Bottle from River’s Bend. Poured black color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate roasted coffee, nuts and dark chocolate aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture. Medium dark chocolate flavor with a medium dark chocolate bittersweet finish of average duration. Snojerk321 (1914), San Diego, California, USA Dec 15, 2007 Updated: Jan 26, 2008Bottle from trade with Beachbum25....thanks!! Pours into glass deep chocolate brown almost black. Nose was overwhelming with the sent of bittersweet Belgian chocolate, toffee, and dough. Flavor was not as potent as the aroma but, still very good. Very creamy mouth feel. Thanks Beachbum!! gwpom (246), Akron, New York, USA Dec 14, 2007 Deep opaque color, firm brown head and that deep aroma of chocolate. Smooth complex mouthfeel, perhaps a bit lighter than the stoutest stout (see Rasputin) but very flavorful and an excellent way to start the evening. I like stouts a lot, and I like this a lot.
