Pours black with a giant dark tan head that takes a long time to go down. Aroma is light chocolate and cherry , belgian yeasr aroma dominates. Taste shows off the chocolate a bit more, still some cherry, spicy belgian yeast is still very big, very nice flavor, smooth texture.

Bottle. Aroma is chocolate. Taste is chocolate. Carbonated a little to much for a stout. Also a bit thin. Althou well balanced and easy to drink very off from what I expected.

Pours a very dark black brown. Aroma of the Belgian yeasts with mild chocolate notes. Very Belgian be and of course the yeasts are strong in the flavor with some malty notes and a chocolate aftertaste. Very pleasant.

A great looking beer, dark ebony colour with a creamy head. A disappointing aroma a faint smell of malt and chocolate. Great taste of malt, dark chocolate with a hint of pepper. Mild palate of pepper and chocolate.

2013 release pours deep amber, ruby edges, thin tan head. nose has the normal belgian yeast spice. earthyness translates to the mouth with chocolate. good but I think indulgence is a bit misleading.

I poured a 750ml bottle into an official Ommegang snifter. It was bottled on 10/18/13 and cost $12.99 ($0.51 per ounce).
Appearance: Opaque black body with some carbonation visible at the edges. Pours to a large, dark tan, foamy head which laces and retains well.
Smell: Surprisingly muted nose of generic Belgian yeast esters with notes of soap and perfume. No chocolate scent.
Taste: Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence is a beer I havenít had in many years. I first reviewed it March of 2009 and thought it was pretty good. Iíve only had it once since then (in 2011) and decided to give it a re-review since I can appreciate Belgian beers a lot more now than I could back then. Though I have to say I am not just surprised, but genuinely shocked by this beer. Itís overtly lacking chocolate as well as stout character, though the Belgian component is strong and rather interesting. I feel this beer is mislabeled.
It seems like the first sip of any stout tends to be great, so I genuinely surprised when the first sip of this one was only average. Up front thereís a standard Belgian flavor as well as a standard dark ale taste. Itís not roasted malt per se, itís simply Belgian yeast esters. Thereís almost a smokiness as the beer continues downward with a zesty, almost soapy sensation. A faint hint of dark chocolate appears right as the beer finishes. Itís entirely too mild and too short lived. Additional bitterness in the aftertaste, along with slight perfume-like character as well. Itís not that it tastes bad, just that it doesnít taste like a stout or chocolate. Disappointing.
Drinkability: Though technically a big beer at 7% ABV, Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence drinks like something much lighter. It doesnít have the thick, heavy, dense body of an imperial stout, but rather the character and delivery of a standard Belgian ale. Plenty of carbonation and spiciness across the tongue, but it does go down smoothly. Iím not a huge fan of the aftertaste, but itís easily tolerable.

Large bottle served in a pint glass.
Pours very dark; opaque; very good light brown head.
Aroma: excellent but surprisingly hoppy. Not surprising: a load of dark and chocolate malts.
Flavor: rich and moderately complex, with dark malts, earthy/herbal hops, and a touch of yeast. Not quite up to the aroma. Starts very sweet but the bittering hops follow quickly.
