Lovely cocoa, sweetish, but full of flavour. But I’m not sure itfunctions too well as a beer. CapnCascade (116), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada May 22, 2009 Black pour, moderate beige head with some retention and good lacing. Ashy nose mostly, seems to be the same thing I get from most beers that advertise chocolate as their saving grace (with the decided exception of the Brooklyn Chocolate Stout). Flavour is ash with some sweetness but also something unpleasant and metallic. Definitely not one of Ommegang’s more spectacular offerings. LIghtish mouthfeel with balanced carbo. Long, dry, chalky finish. Meh. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada May 22, 2009 Pours a pitch black with a thin pale brown head. Ash and birch-bark aroma, earthy and dry. Tastes sweet and ashy, perhaps some dark chocolate but lots of dry chalky bitterness. Sweet with dried dark fruits, but not sticky-sweet. Thin body, lightly creamy with plenty of carbonation. Interesting, but not particularly enthralling. Papsoe (14613), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 18, 2009 Bottle 75 cl. Courtesy of pepsican. Clear black with a reddish hue and a creamy beige head. Lightly sweetish and smoky nose with some chocolate. Medium body, hard roasted malts, a little smoke, metal, chocolate and ashes. Dry and lightly malt bitter finish. 010509 hirigalzkar (550), Stockholm, Sweden May 18, 2009 Bottle. Not choclaty in the sweet way. Very roasted almost burnt taste. Fairly good stout. finol (475), Nacka (Stockholm), Sweden May 17, 2009 750 ml Bottle.
Pours dark brown with a dark tan head.
Deep rosted or even burned and chocolate flavours. Defreni (994), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 17, 2009 Flaske: Chokolade i næsen er første indtryk. Mørk næsten sort øl med et fint skum. Meget chokolade i smagen bakket op af en god del brændthed. Fin øl og tydelig belgisk inspireret. puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA May 4, 2009 Pours a dark brown color with a med tan head. The aroma is of mild chocolate, roasted malts, and dark fruit. The taste is much of the same with some coffee notes. The finish is dry, but i like it....... This stout was yummy. :)
