chronictonic (332), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 2, 2007 Pours black with a tan head. Mild roasted aroma with some piney hops, along with wet cardboard. Very rocky head that stayed wtih the beer - and the glass. Thin body, champagne like fine carbonation bubbles ticket the tongue. Flavor is roasted malt, some chocolate bitterness, but unfortunately, also a slight metallic flavor and a generous flavor of wet paper. Tastes like homebrew that someone would have at a homebrew club meeting. Possibly slightly oxidised.
timsilvia32 (116), born in Michigan, North Carolina, USA Jul 19, 2008 Poured a dark brown. Fragrant cocoa, in the nose. A little bit of coffee, red fruit to complement the cocoa. More tartness than I care for. Really not bad, an enjoyable drink, but not worth the $16.
As a side note, Ratebeer needs to seperate Belgian stouts out from the others, they are very different. Retorp (2148), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 18, 2008 The aroma is sharp and smoky with light chocolate notes and stronger dark fruit notes. The body is black with a light mocha colored head that is pinky thin. Sharp, lightly acidic and chocolaty with coffee bitterness and acidity thrown in for good measure. Faintly metallic and tart with and ashy chalky finish. nuplastikk (381), Maryland, USA Jul 15, 2008 750ml corked bottle. "True" Belgian style Chocolate Stout. Cocoa Ale or something along those lines, would be a better fit in my opinion. Bellyaching aside, this is one of the finer "Cocoa Ales" I’ve had. Nice sweet chocolate aroma. Attractive opaque black appearance. Mellow carbonation. Chocolate syrup taste that comes off surprisingly well. The ABV is perfect for the style, the beer maintains a solid body while being very drinkable. Exceptional beer, recommended. BREWMUSKCLES (731), WEEHAWKEN, New Jersey, USA Jul 14, 2008 not bad...chocolate and alcohol brew with a port like velvet palate. really nice chocolate flavors. touch of fruit and i like the complementary interplay between the beer itself and the better tasting foam. a sipper indeed as the brew flattens out as it sits MartiniFiend (66), Mount Horeb, Wisconsin, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a weak dirty brown head. Strong malt aroma with a bit of mocha. Thick and creamy to the palate. Taste starts out malty with a coffee and cocoa middle and a mildly bitter finish.
