10/04/2009: Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence... Aroma: Chocolate and hints of vanilla, coffee, and roasted malt; even a little smoke/char. Appearance: Deep, dark brown, opaque color with three fingers of dense and creamy tan-colored hard; inkblot-like lacing; some portion of a head/crown lasts from beginning to end. Flavor: Smooth Belgian chocolate in the front, then some dark fruits (blackberry?), roasted malts, nuts, coffee, and smoke; from the middle to the finish there is some weird alcohol presence and something not quite sour, but definitely out of place that greatly distracts from the overall flavor and drinking experience... Palate: Medium-full to full body; milky texture; smooth, creamy, and mellow. Overall: Aroma definitely delivers chocolate, but not so much in the flavor (definitely not enough to cause my wife to like it); still fairly solid overall; possibly best when fresh...

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2007 Solid black, with a roasted tan head, leaving lace...looks good!
Aroma: all cocoa powder with bittersweet espresso on the side. Rich, dark and lovely.
Taste: full-bodied, deep, and decadent. Well-rounded, well-balanced, with chocolate flavor rolling in...very mellow in the mouth, incredibly smooth. Chocolate isn’t too big in the flavor, and the flavor isn’t too big...it seems just right. Adding the word "indulgence" creates expectation of extremes in flavor, and begs comparison to Young’s Luxury Double Chocolate Stout. It falls short by some in that regard, but I don’t mind.
the first non-Belgian-style beer from Ommegang, if you don’t count the inclusion of Belgian chocolate...a delcious stout, and the 7% abv doesn’t get noticed...until now...oh, there you are...
But it’s a solid stout, with noticable chocolate...
Happy 10th Anniversary, Ommegang!

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 8, 2008 Pours black with brown at edges, slight head but leaves great lacing. Aroma is straight up chocolate, couldn’t find anything else. Flavor is chocolate and a light bodied slightly sweet roasty stout. Not bad, but it doesn’t exactly leap out at you. I was hoping for more Belgian notes and a bigger flavor profile. But enjoyable enough. DYCSoccer17 (2201), Davis, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 20, 2008 750mL bottle purchased at the Pole Line Nugget in Davis, CA. I get a lot of doughiness in the aroma. Obviously, there is quitea bit of sweet chocolate and roasty flavors present, too. A little yeast funk. Mildly transparent dark dark brown color with a medium tan head, which leaves nice lacing and is long-lasting. This starts and maintains a pretty sweet, sugary chocolate flavoring throughout. There is a little roastiness in the middle. The finish has a bit of a dusty yeast flavor, consistent with a Belgian yeast strain. Very lightly hopped to finish. Pretty straight forward. Not terrible, but not amazing, either. blutt59 (2186), Dallas, Texas, USA

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Dec 14, 2007 Solid brown body with dry chocolate aroma. Solid body with that dry chocolate flavor (more cocoa powder than anything). NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 18, 2008 The aroma is sharp and smoky with light chocolate notes and stronger dark fruit notes. The body is black with a light mocha colored head that is pinky thin. Sharp, lightly acidic and chocolaty with coffee bitterness and acidity thrown in for good measure. Faintly metallic and tart with and ashy chalky finish. zach8270 (2150), Henrietta, New York, USA

Aroma is very roasty with hints of burnt malts, chocolate, coffee, and cream. Flavor is very dark and roasted with hints of coffee, cream, and a very light chocolate hint. Not a whole lot of chocolate, but very smooth and a little creamy at the end. Rather fizzy.
