Bottle - Black, medium tan head with a hint of lacing. Nose gives cocoa, burnt/acrid malt, a hint of belgian yeast characteristics. Further sniffing reveals some fruit and alcohol, maybe a touch of smokey plastic. Flavor is rich dark malts, almost no burnt notes - instead toffee and chocolate, some very light coffee notes. Finish is more toffee than chocolate, with something that manages to remind me of powdered milk. Long, lingering cocoa/tootsie roll finish.

750 ml bottle from dmac621. Pour dark brown with a lighter brown head and plenty of lace. The aroma it coming off as Nestles Quk powder. A bit smokey, and roasty. The flavor reveals nothing worh indulging in. Mostly just roast. Very little chocolate. Thin body. High carbonation. Dry finish. This beer is just plain boring.

Draft. Black body with a medium sized, creamy tan head - lasting, nice lace. The nose is moderately sweet with chocolate, molasses and light banana. The flavor is lightly sweet with milk chocolate, brown sugar and banana. Medium/full body is soft with gentle carbonation.

Pours a opaque black color with a brown head. Aroma is bitter chocolate, fruity, plum, roast, some Belgian phenols, caramel, brown sugar, and some earthy tones. Flavor is roast, caramel, bitter chocolate, earthy, plum, and a bitter spicy finish.

Draft at MacGregors in Rochester. Poured black with a lasting tan head. Aroma is rather light with dark chocolate and roasted malt notes. Medium body. Flavor has alcohol up front, followed by notes of chocolate, grass, roasted malt, and light smoke. Not bad, but I expected much better.

The Dan Journal #139. Tasted 12/3/07. 750ml bottle. Opaque dark brown hue. Finger width of beige head. Chocolate nose. Cocoa and woody aromas. Medium bodied with a high drinkability. Bready flavors reinforced with cocoa and chocolate flavors. Roasty with a nice coffee acidity. Mild floral yeast flavor. Good peppery hop finish. Cloying with a touch of 7-Up effervescence. Creamy yet with a nice citrus flavor. Moderate burn and a nice palate.

Bottle: Dark brown with a large, creamy tan head. Smells of light roast and coffee, just a bit o’ chocolate. Some of that Ommegang yeast too. Flavor is flat and dry chocolate (like the kid’s nestle quick), light roast, and a little metallic tasting. Not nearly what I had hoped for. At least the body is thick and creamy...
