[draught @ Sunset Grill] Pours nearly black, with a nice tan head composed of tight, small bubbles. Roasted malt aroma, with a slight essence of chocolate. Flavors are full of roasted, dark malts, some interesting yeast, and somewhat understated chocolate character. Dry, bittersweet finish. Overall, very nice.

Got this in a three bottle gift set with a Ommegang glass, poured into tulip and trappist glasses, pours brown black with dark ruby at the edges, has a decent foamy tan and/or dark tan head that thins out a little but keeps a good cover on the drink, I let this sit in a trappist glass for a bit and the bubbly cover was still there, left nice lacing on the glass to, lots of chocolate and roasted dark malt in this brew, some dry dark chocolate, some coffee and faint aroma of liquor which has a resemblance of wood whiskey, the liquor adds to this drink to, it is in the background and does not dominate at all, has a touch of sweetness on the nose, taste follows the aroma lots of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some licorice in the background, a hint of sweetness, has some roasted malt and hop(?)bitterness at the finish, I thought all of the flavors came together well, has a medium or maybe a touch more mouth feel, has a creamy feel on the tongue, a very nice stout.

The beer came in a classy looking 750 ml bomber with a wire cage and a cork. The cork popped up on its own while being unscrewed, and the pour revealed a highly carbonated dark brown stout. The head looked like whipped cream on a hot chocolate. The smell of this beer was sweet and full of chocolate. The real chocolate present in the beer showed up very well in the smell. And unlike most other beers of this type, there was not a hint of roastiness. The taste felt the same way, and reminded me of the occasions when I had paired dark chocolate with a stout, except this time everything was already in the glass. Very well blended taste as the dark malt and chocolate played off each other’s strengths. The taste started off like a dark chocolate, and finished with a sweet flair. If was to pick a bone with something, it would be the sort of thin body. Everything else about this beer was indulgent and luscious as promised on the label. Dessert in a bottle with a second helping to spare.

From recent stout tasting. The packaging leads one to believe that it’s going to be good - I mean it’s corked! They put a cork in this beer - so it’s got to be special. Ehhhh... it’s not. It’s not bad but very average. The chocolate wasn’t stong enough for them to be calling it chocolate indulgence by any means.

750ml bottle from the liquor store in Tyngsborro, Mass. Pours an opaque dark brown/black body with around an inch of light tan head that slowly dissipates leaving some lacing. Roasty dark chocolate dominates the aroma, toasty, slightly burnt malt. Medium in body with ample carbonation. Flavor is definitely roasty and toasty, somewhat sweet, dark chocolate-like, slightly burnt, coffee... Baker’s chocolate comes to mind... Dry on the finish, with roastiness dominating. Slightly smokey? Complex and roasty for sure, though not quite as chocolatey as the name would suggest IMO. Still a very solid Belgian-style stout, and one I’d definitely get again.

Dark brown pour. Nice big brown head. Good initial lacing in the glass. Aroma is heavy coco, chocolate and biscut. Flavor is light coco/chocolate and a bit metallic. Medium to light in body. Very carbonated.

This poured black with a medium sized foamy tan head. The aroma was of sweet milk chocolate, dark malts, cream, and a hint of roast in there as well. The taste was similar with some dark chocolate coming through with a mild roasted flavor to go along with the creamy sweet chocolate. It was medium bodied with a nice creamy texture that went down smooth. It had a nice taste of cocoa powder and cream left behind. This was my first of this style, and I enjoyed this one. I’m glad to see Ommegang try new stuff.

BOTTLE: from Four Firkins (St. Louis Park, MN). Pours a dark brown/black. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, some vanilla. Dark chocolate flavor with some bitterness. A little bit carbonated. Good beer.
