Bottle. High creamy and long lasting light brown head. Pitch black body. Wonderful looks. Roasted barley malt aroma with coffee choccolate and a hint of nuts. Sweet smooth and round choccolate butter flavor without hops bitterness. Low carbonation and a long choccolate aftertaste.

A 750ml bottle shared by Brewfiend at Cellars Wine & Spirits in St Paul, MN. Pours an opaque dark brown brew with a thick and lumpy light tan head that barely goes away. Some very stick and excellent lacing. Aroma of dark baker’s chocolate, dark malt and dark roasted coffee. Taste is full bodied, very little carbonation, thick and chewy with flavors of dark chocolate a touch of vanilla and some dry dark malt. Finish is creamy and chocolately with a slight bitterness in the aftertaste. One of the better chocolate beers I’ve tried.

On tap at Palm Tavern. Poured very deep reddish-brown with a tall, frothy cap of deep tan headage. The aroma picked up sweet, lightly-roasted cocoa and semi-sweet chocolates with cherry and vanilla undertones.. freakin’ dessert in a glass!! The flavor was chock fulla chocolate.. sweeter, darker, and cocoa present with moderate roast with a sweet, brownie-like back-end.. some cherry and vanilla show back there too.. “indulgence” was an ideal name for this. Sweet on the palate with just enough roast to it.. grainier on the back-end, and this made me feel like I drank my dessert. Great one!

Poured a hazy deep brown color with a tan head. Really nice smooth milk chocolate and roasted coffee aroma. The flavor was more roast than chocolate but still a decent of cocoa in it. Hint of tartness. Medium body with an almost creamy mouthfeel.

On-tap at Cole’s at $9 a pint. Mike, you are the best at getting stuff like this in. Deep chocolate, I expected to sip but it went down quicker. Lots of lace and full mouthfeel. Bitter finish and more bitter baking chocolate edge aftertaste, rather than sweet or bittersweet. I must have again..for dessert.

Draught. At Cole’s, Buffalo NY. Odd re-rate - when I had it the first time, I could have SWORN it wasn’t Ommegang, I asked the server if it might have been the Young’s Double Chocolate by mistake? but was assured not. Had it again, same place a week later, and THIS was the right beer - my original score was 8/5/9/4/16=4.2 .... now to rate the real thing. Thick brown-black bubbly pour, with a small light-brown foamy head. Aroma of cocoa, wild yeast, cereal grain, floral hops, and a hint of sour fruit - really nice. The taste followed, even funkier - bret, oh yeah!, dry chocolate, unripe plum, slightly burnt grain, medium alcohol - it took a while for me to warm up to the taste, but then it took a while for this beer to warm up anyway, it was served way too cold. Sticky, lively, yeasty mouthfeel, man there was yeast for days in here, with a burnt-bitter linger and by the end of the glass I had a nice, bret-induced smile. My table-mates weren’t big lovers of the funk, so they didn’t dig it as much. Hah!!

Corked bottle 750ml
Appearance: Handsome dark brown ale , medium creamy top. Good laced ring placed on glass.
Nose : Wood scented chocolate nose , minor smoky malt hints paired together with full brown malt , light aromatic hops as background.. Very nice bouquet,
Flavor/Palate : dark moist woody accents, mineral midlle , rough carbonated side of chocolate malts. Some dry roasted elements at end with soapy following. Sadly substance felt a bit thin.f-7-

Bottle shared by DuctTape. Very dark brown almost black body with a foamy latte like brown head. Sweet, lightly musty malt aroma, with hints of dry cocoa. (7+) Sweet rich malt flavour with chocolate and cocoa notes blended well throughout. Light bitterness in the finish keeps it from becoming cloying. Smooth medium palate, interesting carbonation is tingly (3+) Very nice, less complex than expected perhaps, but quite good.
