A really nice dark stout with plenty of flavor but too subtle a nose. I would have loved to see the chocolate a little more on display, but there was not enough sweetness to really bring out that flavor. Instead it tasted more like a typical high abv stout, but i think the chocolate still lent itself a little to the overall flavor and also to the wonderfully full body. It’s a real looker too, with a nice modest head, but perfect color. Overall, I really like chocolate beers to be sweeter and better for sipping alone for dessert. Chocolate Indulgence is not a name I’d throw around lightly, so I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t so chocolatey. Otherwise, great beer.

Bottle from 2007. Dark brown pour, big light brown head. Chocolate cocoa power, roasty, and more chocolate aroma. Chocolate, roasty flavor, oxidized from age.

Bottle thanks to mcbackus. Nose is like a chocolate covered cherry, as an oxidized kinda way. Taste is watery and not much else, kind of light cocoa. Ok.

Poured from bottle into a snifter Appearance – The beer pours an almost pitch black color with a one finger of tan colored head. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading to leave a good level of lacy islands on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma of the beer is heaviest of a cola aroma with a good showing of molasses and caramel. A dark chocolate aroma is there, but is overall rather light being complemented by some aromas of cream aroma. Some other darker malt smells and a little bit of a dark fruit smell of fig and prune round out the overall smell. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter dark roasted malt flavor with the sweet being mostly of a dark fruit consisting of plum and fig along with a big chocolate flavor. As the taste advances the fruit flavors fade all while a milk chocolate flavor, with hints of vanilla and cream, take its place. Some molasses flavors also join the tongue as the taste advances to the end, bringing an even higher level of sweetness to the brew. While the sweetness increases, the roastedness increases as well with, more roasted malt and a tiny bit of char coming to the tongue. In the end, with a little bit of earth that comes to the tongue, one is left with a quite sweet and smooth chocolate flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average side with a carbonation level that was a bit on the higher side. The body could have likely been a bit thicker with a carbonation level that would be better slightly on the lower side. After the beer sat and the carbonation dwindled some the feel was better, but overall it needed a bit more thickness. Overall – The taste and look were quite nice –big and dark with a nice chocolate flavor, but the aroma and feel were just OK. Overall a nice beer to try, but not really worth the big bottle price of over $10.

Aroma is light. Oaky. metallic. A little roasty. Appearance is alright. Looks thin on the pour. Head is coarse. No lacing. Taste is light... much like a porter. Really no chocolate. Oaky. Boring. Not getting the belgian wine like notes I’ve seen in other belgian style stouts. Palate is a little coarse. Overall a super average beer. Drinks like a ho hum porter but at a white whale price. No chocolate note at all. Just a aggressive porter like palate. Definitely pass especially for the price.

Chocolate Indulgence has a dark brown almost black colored murky body that’s very opaque. The head is thick and frothy with rocky peaks and a tan color. The aroma is malty, toasted and has only a very faint hint of cocoa powder. There are dark toasted and roasted malt flavors with hints of bittersweet chocolate dust and some espresso coffee notes as well. There is a modest hop flavor that adds some bitterness to the finish, which also has a slight metallic touch to it. The texture is smooth and a little bit thin on the palate with a good carbonation and a medium body.

Pours a jet black with a foamy off-white head. Has a sweet belgian yeast aroma. Flavor is sweet belgian yeast up front, bu the main body is a bittersweet chocolate and malts. Has a nicely balanced flavor that doesn’t come off as too sweet or too subtle. Very interesting.

A rich, thick foam and black body is nice to look at, but this beer is not decadent. Belgian yeast has a resounding spice aroma. Smooth with prominent cocoa, but not sweet. A good beer and enjoyable to drink. Just not a rich beer.

Dark chocolate color and a slight chocolate aroma. Has a hint of chocolate flavor and a slight fizz to the palate.
