Flavor is chocolately, bitter, and dry. Dry finish, almost chalky. Alcohol is not present. Tastes like a chocolate coffee milkshake, almost like a Starbucks mocha or something.
Great brew! pete4999 (170), Buffalo, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jun 11, 2009 App - Dark, opaque pour. No light shines through. Tan head with an almost pink hue. Foam lasts for a long time...the way it should be
Smell - Good, but a little disappointing after I recently had a Long Trail Coffee Stout. Definite chocolate scent, as expected, as well as a roast feeling. Maybe my sense of smell isn’t that great, because I don’t really sense much else that’s notable
Taste - Much better than your average, but it should be, given the price. Good combination of sweet and tart, trending towards sweet. Not overpowering, sickening sweet, but definitely a sweeter beer. Not really much of a chocolate flavor though, surprisingly.
Mouthfeel - very creamy....if I didn’t know it was beer, the mouthfeel wouldn’t give it away...barely any bubbles in this one
Overall: A good beer, definitely something I would try again. Falls in the middle range of the similar brews I’ve had lately...not too disgustingly sweet, but a great balance of sweet and tart. I’d recommend it, although it’s not my favorite. bb (2976), Martinez, California, USA

Roasty flavor with chocolate, coffee, yeast, and a bit of spice. Medium body. Chocolate and yeast linger with some roast. Nice and very drinkable. Alcohol well hidden. notalush (2699), Denver, Colorado, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 13, 2007 Very dark brown, nearly black/opaque pour, with sticky tan lace - very rich, belgian dark chocolate aroma, with all the roast, dark fruits, and tobacco notes you’d expect from the real quality examples - I could smell this beer all night - soft carbonation, creamy mouthfeel - the flavor is not as complex as the aroma - dry cocoa, espresso and tobacco notes - very bittersweet - plum, other dark fruits, slight vinous character - the flavor reminds me of eating chocolate-covered espresso beans - slight vanilla, licorice root and woody character in the finish - pretty tasty, but far from indulgent. Aroma is slight and unassuming, but the taste is both bitter and sweet, with chocolate present but not dominate. A classy take on a style that demands class and not indulgence, despite the name of this beer. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA

I was surprised when I saw an Ommegang on the shelf that I had never had before, and even more shocked that it was 14.00 dollars??! Oh well. Pours out a dark brown color with a tan head on it. Smell is sweet, full of chocolate (surprise..) and a little hint of hops. Taste is smooth and rich, almost like eating a bar of chocolate. Thick and no alcohol detected at all. A very good foreign stout, underrated at best. May get another one to age it, not sure yet. I hope this becomes a regular release. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2007 Solid black, with a roasted tan head, leaving lace...looks good!
Aroma: all cocoa powder with bittersweet espresso on the side. Rich, dark and lovely.
Taste: full-bodied, deep, and decadent. Well-rounded, well-balanced, with chocolate flavor rolling in...very mellow in the mouth, incredibly smooth. Chocolate isn’t too big in the flavor, and the flavor isn’t too big...it seems just right. Adding the word "indulgence" creates expectation of extremes in flavor, and begs comparison to Young’s Luxury Double Chocolate Stout. It falls short by some in that regard, but I don’t mind.
the first non-Belgian-style beer from Ommegang, if you don’t count the inclusion of Belgian chocolate...a delcious stout, and the 7% abv doesn’t get noticed...until now...oh, there you are...
But it’s a solid stout, with noticable chocolate...
Happy 10th Anniversary, Ommegang!
