Bottle from Douglas88. Pours a clear dark brown. It is chocolate, aint no question. The only problem is that this was very thin. The chcolate flavor was clear and present but there was little else and did I mention it was thin. If this had more mouthfeel it would have been much better.

Thanks to WeeHeavySD for sharing this. Pretty interesting ale - aroma is chocolate and metal. The flavor was similar, with a strong metallic taste that didn’t work with us. Palate was thin and watery, making for a rather uninteresting beer. Worth a try though.

750 ml bottle thanks to xnoxhatex for bringing this. Pours a dark brown with a light brown head that stays around for quite a while. Bakers chocolate and cocoa in the nose with some funkiness roasted malts. Wow this tastes like chocolate. Like pure cocoa powder. A light bitterness and roastiness from the cocoa. But really sweet. This is a desert that would be best at two or three sips, anything else and you’ve had enough. Interesting beer though.

Pours opaque dark brown with a medium light brown head that leaves good lacing and retains well. The aroma is of baking cocoa, roasted coffee and some sour fruity notes. The flavour brings a metallic tang to the picture, which destroys the cocoa finish and assults the sides of the tongue. The mid-palate flavours include bitter chocolate, sour, yet roasted coffee and cardboard. Medium to thin bodied with a finish that gets longer as it warms. A bit of a dissapointment from such an outstanding brewery.

Bottle purchased at Sam the Beer Man in Binghamton, NY. Pours Black brown, light tan head. Aroma is coffee, pine, vanilla, chocolate, molasses. Flavor is the same with anise, metal, burnt coffee. This bottle was over-priced at $9.99. It was more expensive than the other Ommegang brews. Disappointing.

Bottle. Chocolate malt aroma - mildly astringent. Dark reddish brown color with small head. Chalky chocolate malt flavor. A bit rough and on the weaker side.

Dark dark brown to black with a thick light brown head. Creamy. Cocoa powder? Dry light subtle sweetness, not a lot going on. Creamy full mouthfeel. Light body. Not bad, but not good. Cocoa power in particular sticks out. Not huge flavor. Maybe a slight Belgian twinge. A bit sweet. Not distinctive or really that good. Bitter roast finish.

I had high expectation for this one. I put it in my Christmas Day rotation. Creamy, light brown head. Black color. Mild chocolate aroma with no hops or maltiness. A little oak, nutmeg, clove, and pepper. Not as much chocolate as I had expected or hoped. Most of the chocolate is in the aftertaste.

Pours dark brown with tan head, flavor was not as chocolate as I had expected. The dryness was not expected.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, roasted malt, and a slight nuttiness. It pours a dark brown with some very faint orange highlights and a large beige-tan head with excellent retention and some nice thin lacing. The flavor starts with some watery chocolate and roasted malt. It finishes with moderate sweet fruit and yeastiness along with some metallic notes, nuts, and a hint of alcohol. The flavors just don’t seem to mesh well and the metallic flavor really throws things out of whack for me. Light-medium bodied with minimal soft carbonation leaves it feeling somewhat thin and watery at times.
