Dark brown with red tints and a small, off-white head. Rich bittersweet cocoa, earthy clay, light steaksauce (?), graham cracker and mild coffee aroma. Light-to-moderately bitter flavor with dark chocolate, dates, cinnamon, hazelnuts, rich malts. A bit of hot alcohol at the tail end of the aroma. OK, but not as chocolatey as I anticipated. There are definitely more "chocolate" stouts out there.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a stemmed glass. The color is a dark black with a finger of tan head and some nice lacing left on the glass. The smell is dark malts here, there, and everywhere. The nose does open up once your past the dominant malty aroma and lets out some of that cocoa aroma I had been looking for. A touch of candy sugar sweetens the nose up a bit and gets me motivated to take the first taste. The taste has a nice roast malt flavor that has a hint of dark chocolate and a slight coffee bean flavor. There is a Belgian yeast character that is reminiscent of double that is mixed with a stout. The feel of this beer is medium bodied but behaves like a bigger beer. It will not hurt you but it try’s to scare you that it might be too much handle. It does have a reasonable drink-ability but does tend to challenge you at times. Overall, a great flavorful beer with great character.

Poured from bottle into goblet. Pours almost black and dark khaki head. Aroma - chocolate, malt, coffee, and a touch of yeast, both bready and a touch spicy. Taste - dark chocolate, smoky, coffee, cream, dark malt. Fairly creamy in the mouth, but fairly carbonated (prickly). Rich, but the carbonation level and prickliness is a little bit off-putting.

wØØtstout Imperial Stout 13% ABV APPEARANCE: Pours a romantic dark chocolate. Very opaque but not quite a jet black, still some nice brown hues in there. Very nice caramel colored head that had very nice retention. AROMA: Smells like pecan pie that has been soaked in bourbon. Which equals deliciousness. Getting some sweetness maybe molasses and raisins. Little faint vanilla and for sure pick up the booziness from the bourbon barrel. TASTE: Very flamboyant, layers upon layers. Right off the bat getting that nice barrel flavor. Slight spiciness that balances well with the sweetness of the chocolate and pecan. As it warmed a bit I pull out tobacco and the alcohol began to show its head. MOUTHFEEL: medium bodied and medium carbonation. Slightly oily perhaps from the pecans. Not a super thick beer but surprisingly creamy. OVERALL: Super solid stout from Stone. Was impressed all around. I am curious to see how this ages. Very easily drinking high ABV stout. RATING: 4.3/5 Zombie Heads! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a dark black with some highlights at the edges. A big thick tan head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma of dark fruits and a Belgian twang but only a hint of chocolate. Taste follows nose with some fruitiness, Belgian character and some roastiness and cocoa in the background. Finishes semi dry with a bit of bitterness. Mouthfeel is creamy with a medium/full body and moderate carbonation. Tastes closer to a Belgian Strong Ale with a bit of chocolate. Not enough stout character or chocolate but wasn’t bad, just not as advertised or expected.

The first Ommegang brew that I was not wow’d by. However, had I not had such high expectations it is still an above average stout. Aroma is malty and mild. Espresso dark. Thin minimal tan head. Fairly light mouthfeel. Very Mild bittersweet chocolate behind a mild Imperial stout.

I was disappointed in this beer. The chocolate flavor was lacking to say the least. At the bottom of my list as far as Stouts are concerned.

Draft at Blue monk. Dark Brown black pour with a medium Brown head. Nose is a boozy chocolate with roasted bitter malt. Taste is dark chocolate bitter sweet. Nutty roasted malt finish.

Pours a dark cola color with a clean water aroma mixed with a slight coco powder. Taste is a little blahand watery for a stout. Minor chocolate taste, with a very quickly dissipating aftertaste. I had high hopes for this beer but was slightly dissappointing.
