Aroma primarily strong roasted malt with cocoa present. Appearance dark brown with minimal, dark tan head. Flavor is merely okay for a beer of this style. Roasted malt flavors dominate at first. While chocolate flavors are present, they seem to be in the background. Mild biscuit flavor in aftertaste, and alcohol is quite discernible and almost seems to dominate. Mouthfeel is good: creamy with slight effervescence. In sum: I really wanted to like this beer, but after two 750 ml bottles over two sessions, I really cannot get into this one. Better the second time around, but I think think there are better beers of this type out there. Still, while average, flavor is not too burnt, which is admirable for beer of this style. Problem is that chocolate flavors subsumed by predominance of biscuity, alcohol flavor. Okay, but not great.

"just tried a year old 10th anniversary release. I’d like to compare with the 08 release, but i can’t find it. Not quite "indulgant", but came close by the end. It started off pretty underwhelming, but got better as it climbed higher than 55 degrees...so almost every aspect is graded on a scale. aroma 7-9 mouthfeel 7-9, flavor 7-8, overall 8 2012-earns the decadent name a little more."

on tap at Quarry House Tavern in Silver Spring, MD. Opaque, near black with a tan head and very good lacing. Aroma of cola, roasted coffee, mild cocoa, yeast dates and other dark fruit. Taste of plums, black cherries, chocolate, roasted coffee, dates, Belgian yeasts and roasted malt. Medium body and medium carbonation. A nice imperial stout with an interesting complex of dark fruit and mild roastiness coupled with coffee and a surprisingly subtle chocolate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Poured from a 750ml bottle from 2007. The aroma is light, chocolate, malty, light yeasty notes. The flavor is firm chocolate, caramel, malty, hints of toffee. The yeast character is minimal. Solid beer, lacks complexity for it to be a fantastic beer.
