3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from a 750ml bottle into a stemmed glass.
The color is a dark black with a finger of tan head and some nice lacing left on the glass.
The smell is dark malts here, there, and everywhere. The nose does open up once your past the dominant malty aroma and lets out some of that cocoa aroma I had been looking for. A touch of candy sugar sweetens the nose up a bit and gets me motivated to take the first taste.
The taste has a nice roast malt flavor that has a hint of dark chocolate and a slight coffee bean flavor. There is a Belgian yeast character that is reminiscent of double that is mixed with a stout.
The feel of this beer is medium bodied but behaves like a bigger beer. It will not hurt you but it tryís to scare you that it might be too much handle. It does have a reasonable drink-ability but does tend to challenge you at times. Overall, a great flavorful beer with great character.

Opaque, near black with a tan head and very good lacing.
Aroma of cola, roasted coffee, mild cocoa, yeast dates and other dark fruit.
Taste of plums, black cherries, chocolate, roasted coffee, dates, Belgian yeasts and roasted malt.
Medium body and medium carbonation.
A nice imperial stout with an interesting complex of dark fruit and mild roastiness coupled with coffee and a surprisingly subtle chocolate.

Poured from a 750ml bottle from 2007. The aroma is light, chocolate, malty, light yeasty notes. The flavor is firm chocolate, caramel, malty, hints of toffee. The yeast character is minimal. Solid beer, lacks complexity for it to be a fantastic beer.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Tap pour. Pitch black with off white head. Decent lacing. Raw coca, light roast and mild dark fruit. Restrained. Flavor builds. Plums and cherries. Stronger chocolate notes. More bitter than sweet at first, but the balance changes as you drink down. Moves into milk chocolate territory, with some molasses. A tad chalky on finish. OK.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle sampled at Muckfest V on 7/11/14. Pours clear brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of malt, chocolate and slight band-aid. Less band-aidy than the first batch that came out in í06 or í07 or whenever. Malty and caramelly flavor with some chocolate before an estery, yeasty finish.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
December 18th, 2012 - I like a good chocolate based beer in December. It not only fits with the season and atmosphere (which, near the foothills of Colorado, is mostly cold, but never bitterly so) and the holidays, which fill us to bursting with sweets and sugars like an overindulgent grandmother. For these reasons I plucked the Ommegang Chocolate Indulgence off of my storage shelf to enjoy on a cold and relaxing evening, spending a lot of time before I tasted it enjoying the rich Dubbel-like smell, with the extra lacing of strawberry, cotton candy and raspberry. The theme in the aroma seems to be tart and tangy sweets, and itís a lovely blend, showing off with fruits that lend themselves well to a coating of chocolate. Which reminds me, I donít sense much chocolate in the aroma. At last I check the flavor to see if thatís where itís been hiding, and here thereís a shade of a blend: raspberry chocolate, like the coffee drink, but itís faint. The body is lighter than expected, with a mixture of sugars and savories that again reminds me of dubbels, and a long aftertaste that exhibits tart fruits. But the chocolate is faded, and sometimes invisible. That doesnít diminish the enjoyability of the beer, but itís not what I expected, either.
