Approximately 12 oz draft pour at BXL East in Midtown East Manhattan. The pour is a hazed copper golden, with a well formed 1 inch white head. Nice lace coats the glass. The aroma is straw, hay, clove and a light fruit yeast. The taste is the straw, hay, and a bit of fruity lemon lime. The beer is lightly sweet, then moves to yeast notes of the nose, though the clove is softer in the taste than the nose. Touch of banana as the beer warms. The palate is light bodied, thinner, almost approaches being watery. Soft carbonation, and a clean, thin finish. Easy drinking beer.

UPDATED: MAR 16, 2013 On tap at BXL East in NYC many, many times. Pours lovely cloudy orange with a medium white head. Lovely aroma of citrus fruits with notes of spice. Orange/coriander flavors really come through. This is an excellent beer, extremely balanced with a great finish.

Tap at BXL, served in a saison dupont tumber, $6.Cool little joint at 1am I might add. Simple light amber pour with a small head. Yeast, spice, malt, grassy hops, more spices (not in a bad way, no soap), some dough.. Yep. This beer is pretty straight forward, but the spices aren’t overdone and I could have a couple more pints no problem. A clean, easy drinking beer that holds my attention. I couldn’t ask for much more.

On tap at bxl nyc, obvs. Have drank this beer deep into many evenings at my post-bway theater district hang. Rich, fruity, juicy aroma: wonderful, which unfortunately sets up an expectation that isn't exactly lived up to in the flavor. The nose is so interesting but the taste, especially in the finish, falls flat without enough bitterness. Makes it really drinkable as a session beer but not more.

Had on tap at BXL cafe. Lovely orange hue capped by a soapy looking white head. Nose has light orange, coriander, and earthiness. Taste brings the addition of light biscuit. Bitterness is a bit cutting but enjoyable. Mouth is light bodied, does become dry. Yum.

In short: A spicy basic Belgian golden ale. Decent, no more.
How: Tap at BXL Belgian Café, NYC
The look: Almost clear light golden body topped by a small white head
In long: Nose is spicy, orange peels. Taste is rather sweet, very spicy, crisp honeyed and caramelized cereals, hay, yeasty notes, very lively body. Basically this is a typical basic fluffy lively Belgian golden ale augmented with flavors of orange peels and spices. Not a bad beer but overall this is a bit of a letdown coming from Ommegang and certainly one of the less interesting beer from this usually very good brewery. Oh well, this beer is exclusive to this NYC bar so I had to try it. It is expensive to drink beer in New-York City, and everybody’s is complaining about the plummeting economy, however I saw a sawed-off shotgun kiosk that was doing great.

On tap at BXL Cafe East. Nice cuvee of amber complexion. Nose was fruity and spicy. Taste also caramel, toffee with some nice sweet fruit flavours. Enjoyable and Ommegang always very good.

Ommegang makes this house beer for the BXL restaurants. Enjoyed in midtown Manhattan. Cloudy golden with a lace sheet. Sour in aroma. Above average mouthfeel. Citrus orange taste, with the coriander and grains of paradis. Good drinkability, satisfying. Drying finish.

On the fifth day of Christmas...BXL served to me one of these. Pours a somewhat hazy orange with nice carbonation. Aroma is citrus, spices and grass. Taste is sweet with very very subtle bitters. Very light mouthfeel makes this easy to drink.
