3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 JCB (3859) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - DEC 29, 2012
750ml from Sam’s, Durham. Attractive pour, hazy gold with a rocky head and spotty lacing. Nose is peppery with soft hops, though there’s a pronounced fruity undertone that I reckon is from the Ommegang house yeast. Light, prickly mouthfeel. Taste is like a biere de garde inasmuch as it’s far more bready and yeasty, balanced away from the hops that are there but less prominently than desired. Faintly dry hints at what could have been. Still enjoyable, but at the price it’s hard not to see this as a slight letdown.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 kidmartinek (2555) - austin, Texas, USA - DEC 26, 2012
Just good beer. Hazy gold color. Pure white yeast. Wild yeasty aroma. Fruity yeasty straw flavor. Thin body with a lot of carbonation. This one makes good burps.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Gachupines (640) - USA - DEC 24, 2012
Pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma is slightly floral with a bit of hay mixed in. Flavor is a little muddled. It’s a little yeasty with some lemon zest and vaguely peppery in the finish. Overall, similar as Duvel but not as elegant.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 badlizard (5169) - Berkeley, California, USA - DEC 22, 2012
Bottle. Clear golden with a fizzy white head. Sweet pear, tangerine, apple, and horse blanket funk aroma. Bright silky palate. Tastes of orange, pear, banana, and apple with a barn yard funk finish.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 malrubius (1406) - Valley Stream, New York, USA - DEC 22, 2012
Bottle from Decicco Ardsley. Hazy golden orange with ring. Mildly tart green apple and green leafy aroma with a hint of pineapple. Mildly fruity sweet with hint of vanilla and herbal medium bitter finish. Just okay. Certainly not "elegant." Fresh Malheur 10 is elegant. This is just okay.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheRealMGD (541) - Lakewood, Washington, USA - DEC 20, 2012
Tap at TRH. Hazy gold pour with a brief white head leaving minimal lace. Nose is yeast and Belgian. Medium body and fine carbonation. Banana, biscuit, dough and some booze. Finish is dry, doughy and peppery. Very good, but not amongst the best.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 keepersj12 (2275) - Sicklerville, New Jersey, USA - DEC 16, 2012
The beer pours a cloudy light amber with a white head. The aroma has a nice malt base but some hops find their way in. The flavor has the malt and sugar, spice and hops. The finish is dry and long lasting.
4.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 weissblau (15) - - DEC 16, 2012
Pours very pale with a very thin head. Flavor is initially quite hoppy then turns malty sweet for the finish. Earthy, flowery notes.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 hopdog (7732) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 15, 2012
750ml, caged and corked bottle. Hazy straw color with an white head. Aromas of citrus, grains, yeast, some bread, and lighter spices. Tastes of citrus, spices, and yeast. Body a tad thinner with the alcohol content hidden.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 poisoneddwarf (1341) - Rathdrum, Idaho, USA - DEC 13, 2012
750 ml corked and caged bottle. Pours cloudy yellow-orange with a medium off-white head with good retention. Aroma is doughy, a little funky, lemony, grainy. Taste is lightly sweet and finishes a little dry and tart; a little boozy, a tad watery. Medium-bodied with prickly carbonation. This doesn’t come close to regular old Duvel, but it’s not too bad.
