Duvel Rustica Golden Ale is our long-anticipated collaboration with Duvel. It’s our first Belgian-style Golden Ale, a elegant ale noted for using simple ingredients to create complex flavors and aromas. We worked closely with Duvel on the recipe and processes, yet added our own signature notes. This Duvel collaboration created a fine ale, one with all the depth and breadth of Duvel’s classic Belgian Golden Ale, along with rustic notes, including fruity esters from our yeast. In keeping with our rustic farmstead roots, Rustica pours a golden hue, the aroma and flavor mixes maltiness and citrus from hops while the yeast produces notable fruitiness. The body is lean and rounded, while the finish offers dry warmth & firm hop bitterness.

750, corked and baled. Pours a slightly hazy medium gold with a loose white head that settles quickly. Intermittent drippy lace. Big honey nose, the familiar hay and lemon are still there but they’re joined now by a sweet and floral note from the yeast esters. Creamy medium body, almost fizzy, but not quite. Hay, lemons, honey, and flowers on the mid palate, with a bit of herb presence. Mild tangy honey floral finish. Nice beer somewhere between a strong golden and a big saison.

750 ml. Thank to my buddy Adam Jackson in a trade. Used my Duvel Artist series Tulip. Cellar temperature shows a nice nose of floral hops, bubble gum, Belgian yeast and pils malt. This seems every bit of a Duvel clone using Ommegang house yeast. And for me that’s a good thing. Complex flavors with light sweetness and notes of fruits, lemons, banana esters. Solid amount of spice, a touch bit of farmhouse funk, and spicy bitterness. Light bodied with a dry, crisp finish. The only major flaw is the noticeable ABV. Other than that this is a nice brew.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Pours cloudy yellow-orange with a medium off-white head with good retention. Aroma is doughy, a little funky, lemony, grainy. Taste is lightly sweet and finishes a little dry and tart; a little boozy, a tad watery. Medium-bodied with prickly carbonation. This doesn’t come close to regular old Duvel, but it’s not too bad.

Champagne Bottle. Sweet banana custard wheat like scent. Cloudy golden copper pour with a white head to ring, quick to dissolve. Med/thick body with a frothy airy to dry feel. Sweet banana custard flavor to a tangy spice, clove, vinous finish.

Sample at World Of Beer. Hazed dark gold-amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of ripe fruit, yeast and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of fruity yeast, grainy malt and a touch of hops. The finish is malty up front with a lingering slightly tart fruit aftertaste. Above average overall.

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a medium poorly retained, white, tiny bubbled head, over a slightly hazy, yellow (SRM 3), effervescent body....nose is pils malt, light pear apple....taste is light pear, apple, light cereal, leading to a peppery, bitter hop finish, finishing dry....mouth feel medium, minimally astringent, slight alcohol warmth, carbonation adds a foamy spritzy texture. The aromas, flavors and mouth feel of this beer are absolutely spot on for the style. This is no surprise as both Duvel and Ommegang are excellent breweries. The rapidly collapsing head, with minimal lacing is the only flaw. Maybe a slightly different hop or malt bill would change the head/lacing, or perhaps my glass has some fatty acids on it. Draft. Aroma is very apple and yeast. The appearance is a hazy golden. The taste is of crisp apple that rolls into a light, fruity yeast flavor. The palate is nice. Overall, a refreshing beer that would be good for summer. Would buy on draft, but prolly not bottled. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Finally something from Ommegang that isnt overrated. Pours clear orange. Medium to high carbonation. Floral hops, light brett and spice in aroma. Taste has a nice tang and leaves with a touch sour and bitter. Nice, balanced beer. Tap at Slows.

Pours a slightly hazy pale golden color. The head dissipates rather quickly unlike a Duvel. Aroma is pretty flat. Taste is of slight citrus and yeast. Very little hop notes. Mouthfeel is not as carbonated as a Duvel. Decent beer. Would Rather have either a Duvel or something different from Ommegang.
