3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Dutch-s. Clear light golden with a medium white head with sporadic lacing. Nose is mildly spicy and herbal with some banana fruitiness. The flavor is much of the same with a bit of solvent toward the finish. I donít like this as much as regular Duvel.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cloudy tan...certainly doesnít have that Duvel head, aroma is appetizing, with sweet honey, some gentle spiciness, yeast complexity. The taste...Iím not sure this follows through. The orangey character is there but muted, the malts pushed more to the fore and are sweeter and the alcohol is Duvel-like but it doesnít work as well with the hop dryness. Does not compare well to Duvel and only okay as a strong Belgian golden.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours maize with a white head into a Duvel tulip. The aroma is insanely good -- the epitome of what a golden farmhouse ale should offer. Grassy fields that take you there, cut hay drying in the sun, a bit of dust, leather, pepper, a mild hint of the bubblegum and banana to come in the flavor. I am really impressed. This aroma reminds me not only why I like rustic golden ales but also why I love beer in general. It makes me start to think about giving a rare 10 for aroma.
The bubblegum comes up forwardly in the flavor, a bit stronger than I like, and the yeast contributes the expected spiciness. While this is a relatively dry beer, the esters contribute a certain sweetness and the alcohol is not undetectable. A chocolate-covered salt caramel pairing is money, pushing the sweetness into the background and drawing out the noble hops that otherwise are more in the aroma than flavor. I think I need to revisit the whole Ommegang range; my bet is that I came to it too early in my beer journey and didnít appreciate it for what it was.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from a large bottle into a trappist style glass to drink. The beer was a lighter gold color with a slight hazy-sediment component, but mostly clear, with a good-sized foamy white head that had average retention, but very good cling and lacing. Its aroma had a lively fruity and floral blend with notes of grapes and apple, along with a lighter earthy-grainy mix, and a bit of yeast. The taste was quite good with a predominantly sweet fruit blend with fruity flavors, including apple, and a light citrus background, with a subtle grainy bitter finish. It had a lighter, fluffy, smoother body with a somewhat wet mouthfeel, and medium carbonation and fizz; the fairly high alcohol content was indiscernible.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
In short: A yeasty and well hopped belgian blonde ale. High drinkability for the style. Good beer.
How: Bottle 750ml, consumed fresh soon after purchase.
The look: Cloudy shining yellow-blonde body topped by a medium white head.
In long: Nose has a lot of yeast-related fruits (peaches, bananas, ground cherries) along with a nice fresh baguette smell and grassy herbal hops. In mouth the beer feels nourishing, big full chewy body but with ample carbonation, very nice mouthfeel here. Taste is both straightforward and highly satisfying. A pale malt backbone that is like fresh crust-less baguette. Fruity notes of bananas, pears, ground cherries. Strong and pleasant belgian yeast presence. Generous amount of earthy herbal hops. A bit sweet on the attack but the herbal-grassy hops do a great job drying out the finish. My 750ml was just too easy to drink. First time I had this beer I thought it was just ok, then a few months later I bought this bottle (different Batch?) and I loved it quite a lot. Another well-made and well-packaged beer from Ommegang, this brewery that always goes the extra mile, and thankfully they donít run a taxi service because people would be so pissed after being dropped one mile past where they want to go.
