3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Flowery hop aroma with a touch of citrus. Pours a cloudy, golden color with a significant white head. Starts slightly hoppy, but pretty well balanced. Finishes crisp and dry with grassy and citrus flavors.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
I poured a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. It was bottled on 4/10/13 and cost $3.99 ($0.33 per ounce).
Appearance: A bright yellow, akin to a lemon skin. Cloudy, but plenty of visible carbonation. Forms a huge, bright white, fluffy head similar to Duvel. It retains and laces quite well.
Smell: Classic Belgian yeast esters, plus flowers, a hint of spice, and some citrus.
Taste: The best way to sum up Ommegang Fleur de Houblon would be a cross between a Belgian pale ale and an American pale ale. Itís got the base Belgian character down pat: the yeast character with its esters and spicy flavors, along with significant (but restrained) hop flavor and bitterness.
The palette begins like a lot of standard Belgian pale ales (or "singles"): dry bitterness, some lemon zest and fruit flavors, followed by true hop character at the apex. The label indicates itís "hopped to perfection" with whole cone Bravo hops, but if youíre expecting an all-out hop bomb you may be a bit disappointed. The hops here add a light flowery component as well as some dry spicy character as well. I get a hint of ground black pepper on the finish, plus a bit more lemon rind or grains of paradise sort of taste (though itís nowhere near being a generic American pale wheat ale).
Drinkability:. The mouthfeel is classic Belgian in every way with fine, scrubbing carbonation bubbles, though itís pretty easy to get down. While Fleur de Houblon is rather bitter and dry, it does leave a fairly clean aftertaste, though I wouldnít describe it as a refreshing beer per se. Iím not sure why they opted for a hefty weight of 6.8% ABV, but then again Ommegang rarely brews small, sessionable beers, so I guess a summer seasonal from them would be rather strong (thankfully, it doesnít feel or drink like something that big).

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Quickly chilled from the freezer, this beer is bright, slightly hazy and golden, with loads of white, tight, lively head, finally subsiding and leaving lace. It sort of smells like lemon, candied pineapple, citrus rind, slight alcohol and wet blankets. Remarkably well balanced flavor, with a lightly caramel sweet shot down the middle, with semi-dry bitterness and bready chewiness. Opens up a bit as it warms, more florals and honey. At 6.8% itís darn lively. Good beer.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled at the W&C on Ballas. It poured a clear golden yellow color with a thick foamy white head. The aroma was of Belgian yeast, wheat, herbal tea, some flowers and light peppery spices. The taste was light, peppery, with bready malt, tropical fruits and spicy hops in the finish. Very good.

Drank on tap (12 oz) at the brewery on June 21, 2013. Hazy pale blond, medium head. Light spicy hop aroma, notes of Belgian yeast. Taste is the same, but dry, bitter spice. Pure summer beer!

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12 oz bottle pours a slightly hazy golden color with a fluffy white head that leaves good lacing. Smells of floral, pine, tropical, and Belgian yeast. Tastes of all the same things with a good hop presence. Mouthfeel is light and refreshing and chewy with a dry finish. Itís nice to see a brewery that make Belgian style beer brew a hoppy style also very light for the summer. Very tasty and full of flavor. Will definitely have this every summer.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
bottle. a great looking glowing gold beer with cloudiness under a whipped white head. big herbal, grassy, vanilla, yeasty aroma. flavors of lemon, grass, band-aid phenols, plastic, hay, white grapefruit and pineapple. the phenols are acceptable in the style, however, quite obnoxious in this one which is my only turn off here...otherwise its almost perfect. it has a great refreshing, hoppy note with a high effervescence.
