Nice thickish dark pour. Smoke, booze, slight vanilla presence. Taste is pretty char coffee. A little slick and boozy. Still pretty solid stout. You know nothing...

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black with thick slow fading head. Nose of licorice, burnt coffee. Slightly oily mouthfeel, with light smoke, licorice, molasses, and bitter hops. Tasty and much fuller bodied than I expected for the abv.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draught @ Ginger Man. Inky black with medium sized creamy beige head, faint mocha aroma, lightly bitter roasted malt taste, hint of vanilla in the background, low carbonation, full body, long bitter burnt finish. Very smooth but a bit too roasted.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a thick, dense light brown head about four centimetres tall. Aroma of roasted malt, light coffee, earth, nuts, milk, cream and some light hops as well. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong robust flavour of malt, earth, cream and some nuts along with the roasted malt and coffee. Aftertaste is nice and deep, but the body and effervescence and palate are even better. Overall, a nice and robust beer with a great profile. Even though I know nothing about Game of Thrones and don’t want to know anything, this beer was good and the price was right. I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased earlier in the day on 17-October-2015 for US$16,99 for a two pack sampler with a glass purchased from Costco in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia sampled during the day during my eldest daughter’s 3rd Birthday party, just steps from the store on 17-October-2015.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
From the corked, caged 750 ml. bottle. Probably Batch #2 - 2015. Stunning near black pour with lingering tan head. This one kind of runs the gamut with a coffee-like dark malt aroma. The body is medium. The taste brings out more of a smoky, toasted dark malt character. Licorice elements. I have not had many of these mainly due to the price. But the ones I have had are decent.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This is a pretty weird Stout. And I mean that as a compliment! It looks normal enough with a black body and tan suds. The yeasty, earthy, spicy, and darkly fruity notes made me think of some kind of blackened Belgian ale. Yet, the roasted flavors of chocolate, subtle cream, and black licorice were much more Stout-like. It’s like a Belgian interpretation of the American style Stout. Frankly, it seems like exactly the kind of thing Ommegang would/should make. Guilty confession: I’ve never seen or read Game of Thrones. Still, this seems like the perfect beer to sip between scenes/pages. It’s good to know you don’t have to be a GOT fan to enjoy the hell out of this stuff.
