COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Night gathers and it’s time to announce the newest beer in the Game of Thrones series. Take the Black Stout is named for the oath taken by those who stand the Night’s Watch at the Wall, defending Westeros against northern.

Take the Black Stout is a 7% beer, brewed with base, caramel, chocolate and roasted barley malts. Hopping includes Northern Brewer and Columbus; spices are licorice root and star anise. Hue is black with full tan head. Aromas include chocolate, caramel, and earthy hops, light roastiness, a touch of fruitiness. Tastes include chocolate, coffee, rich malts, and balanced roastiness. Clean hop bitterness joins with slight woody character and spiciness; the finish offers sweet malt character leading to spicy, earthy, hop bitterness.

Bottle; Pour is murky brown, with a fine bubbled, two finger khaki head into this glass - It retains fairly welll, with a light spotting present here. The nose is mild fruit, light roast, with some cocoa / caramel present here. It reminds slightly of an export stout. Anyway - The flavor profile is roast, cocoa, caramel, moving to fruit esters, light licorice present. Mineral water is present - frankly - its just lacking heft. Its clean, but too simple for me

750ml bottle in an Ommegang tulip. Pours near black with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, some chocolate, light dough, hints of chocolate, light spices and dark fruits, and a light bitterness. Flavor the same. Average texture. A decent stout, but a little light.

Excellent creamy head and nice feel on the palate, but otherwise a fairly generic stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours opaque coffee with thin tan head that lasts and laces. Smells of roasted malt, chocolate, pepper, and vanilla. Drinks smoothly with mild lingering bitterness. Medium bodied. Tastes of dark bread, roasted malt, bitter chocolate, and wood notes. Slightly astringent finish.

Pours dark with a thick head, the taste of spice, anise, and chocolate are present, but not over powering. If winter is truly coming, this is the beer I want to keep warm with. Toasty, chocolatey, and with a slight bitterness on the finish.

Bottle from the LCBO. Almost-black body with a big puffy tan head. Aroma of dark malt, fruity chocolate, bit of licorice. Flavour follows the aroma - not bad, but I hoped for more complexity. Body is on the thin side, and a bit sharp on the palate. All in all, a bit of a letdown.

Logged in from untappd. thin and over carbonated. so far the series has been underwhelming.

Tessic (816) - Brantford, Ontario, CANADA - APR 3, 2014
This stout poured a deep black colour with a big, beautiful, tan coloured, creamy stout. To the nose there are scents of toffee, vanilla, anise seed and cocoa to name a few. Carbonation is there but not overkill. Fizzy on the tongue. First swig was full of flavour. Flavours of spice, licorice, smoke, vanilla and roastiness. Finish is nice and burnt with spice flavour lingering.
