COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Night gathers and it’s time to announce the newest beer in the Game of Thrones series. Take the Black Stout is named for the oath taken by those who stand the Night’s Watch at the Wall, defending Westeros against northern.

Take the Black Stout is a 7% beer, brewed with base, caramel, chocolate and roasted barley malts. Hopping includes Northern Brewer and Columbus; spices are licorice root and star anise. Hue is black with full tan head. Aromas include chocolate, caramel, and earthy hops, light roastiness, a touch of fruitiness. Tastes include chocolate, coffee, rich malts, and balanced roastiness. Clean hop bitterness joins with slight woody character and spiciness; the finish offers sweet malt character leading to spicy, earthy, hop bitterness.

I just couldn't get into this one. Aroma is heavy licorice as yeast. Flavor is licorice, anise, and lots of bitterness with a bitter aftertaste. Don't get a lot of coffee or chocolate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very nice beer. Licorice and roast. A slight smokiness lingers in the back. Not as heavy as expected from a stout this size.

Bottle from the back of the fridge. Black. Light tan head. The aroma is both fruity/berryish and chocolatey. Fairly good balance of these elements on the palate, too. The chocolate is sweet, maybe a bit molassesy, and the blackberry fruit is a pleasant, unexpected accent. Bit fizzier than I might like but good beer.

Jet black pour. The aroma is of roasted malt, roasted nuts and dark chocolate. Burnt malt flavor, with some coffee tones, some chocolate comes through. A great bitter chocolate aftertaste.

Aromas of black malt, hints of earth, toasted dark rye and mild herbs. Dark brown with a smallish, tan head and decent lace. Feel is silky with a fine bubbled eff. Light sweet start, with bittersweet and dark chocolate. Mild dark toasted malt. Some woody licorice. Little bit of herbal hops. Bready yeast. Complex in some ways simple in others. Long herbal finish. 9/13

Black pour with griatfy tan head. Some lacing as head dissapates. Earthy and roasty aroma, not overly bold though. Flavor is fairly complex. Earthy sweet chocolate, roasted malts, slight spice near finish. A little light in body but pleasant palate overall.

750 ml. Nose is oatmeal, char, dark chocolate, soy and anise. Opaque ebony body with a lasting film of creamy foam. First flavor has graham cracker, semi-sweet chocolate, and then turns to a pleasant hit of earthy roasted vegetable and prunes. Subsequent sips are dominated by the dark, earthy spice mix that soon becomes a too-dominant mix of tobacco, cardboard and licorice. Medium body is watery with a too-long bitter spice additive finish. Medium-high fizz that flares up in the mouth doesn’t help this one either.

2/14/16. 750mL bottle from Five Points. Happy Valentine’s Day, I guess, though technically it’s just after midnight, not the actual day. Black pour with a thick, creamy tan head that lasts for days and coats with lacing. House yeast maybe? Chocolate on the aroma, dark chocolate that is, a big dose of dark roasted malts, light spice. Ashy, dry, roasted malt flavor, a touch of a savory aspect, dark dark bakers chocolate, a Belgian aspect, light spice, lingers dry and bitter. High, burning carbonation.
