COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Night gathers and itís time to announce the newest beer in the Game of Thrones series. Take the Black Stout is named for the oath taken by those who stand the Nightís Watch at the Wall, defending Westeros against northern.

Take the Black Stout is a 7% beer, brewed with base, caramel, chocolate and roasted barley malts. Hopping includes Northern Brewer and Columbus; spices are licorice root and star anise. Hue is black with full tan head. Aromas include chocolate, caramel, and earthy hops, light roastiness, a touch of fruitiness. Tastes include chocolate, coffee, rich malts, and balanced roastiness. Clean hop bitterness joins with slight woody character and spiciness; the finish offers sweet malt character leading to spicy, earthy, hop bitterness.

Dark brown stout with a massively foamy off-white head. Smells like fruit. Taste is more fruit than licorice, and thereís also some roasty malts, chocolate, and a tad bit of bitterness. Smooth, has a very nice feel. Overall pretty good.

Drank 16 Oct 2013, the day I found out I was going to be based in Minot after initial training. This was a dark and mysterious stout. Definitely fits what my mindís eye would expect this beer to be from the name and series. Dark, a little sweet, hint of roast, firm hops.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with medium beige head leaving sticky lacing. The aroma is bready malt, wood, and light roast. Medium mouthfeel with flavors matching nose with light bitter finish, good.

On tap at Dexters, pours a very dark brown almost black with a thin light brown head and spotty lacing, the aroma has a kick of coffee mixed in with some sweetness of caramel and malt, the flavor has a coffee like front end with a chocolate touch in the finish, pretty easy drinking, enjoyable.

Draft pour at special brews. Pours black with a tan fizz head. Slight coffee and roasted malt aroma. High carb flavor with a lot of chocolate. Some espresso late in the palate. Unique stout for sure, though I canít quite explain why. Very tasty. Nicely done

My first beer from Ommegangís Game of Thrones series. Looked promising out of the gate with an opaque black body, crowned by a beautiful, pillowy mocha head. The nose was a letdown though, with some mild vanilla cream, and not much else. Mouth feel was similar to most stouts Iíve had, if a little on the sweet side. Taste wise, there was nothing Iíve experienced in the last two dozen stouts Iíve had, as in no mocha, no cocoa nibs, no chocolate, no coffee. The label says Star Anise and licorice root, but Iím not getting that either. There is a bit of almost, but not quite, hoppy bitterness on the swallow, but it is a generally an uneventful beer, and one of the least interesting stouts I have ever drank. Best before date is 5 months from now, so Iím sure itís fine, just not to my tastes.

Pour on tap at Town Hall Tap, dark black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of cocoa, anise, dark fruit, smoke into a bit of roasted malt, slight spicy notes. Taste was a mix of coffee, chocolate, dark fruit, anise, hints of smoke into a bit of spice, touch of yeast, finishing fairly sweet, yeasty and spicy as well.

Potch black with a large head. Slighly spiced aroma, with a bit of licorice. Somewhat bitter and roasty flavor. A little astringent. Some dark coffee.
