3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark rich browns.... tan fluffy head. aroma is a little mute but had hints of stewed sweet fruits with burnt chocolates. Flavour was equal to the aroma with a strange aftertaste getting back into the fruitiness but nice bitters. Body seems a little weak for my liking, slight thicker would have been nice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Poured a deep black color stout with a nice off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with light residual sugar notes. Taste is pretty dry with some roasted malt notes and light residuals sugar traces are noticeable. The liquorice and star anises did not make such a huge impact. Body is pretty full with nice creamy texture and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. Good but not close to the best this brewery can offer.

2.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
Dark fruit and malt aroma. Pours black with a thick dark tan head that last a long time. Smells much better than it tastes. Lighter bodied than it looks. Hints of dark fruit but mostly bitter cocoa. Just a bit of warmth on the finish.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle. Pours an opaque coffee brown with a finger of frothy tan head that settles unevenly and leaves just a few spots of trailing lace. The initial aroma is spicier than the flavor, with the anise and licorice notes, along with roasted malts, dark and milk chocolate, mellow coffee, earth, and light tobacco. The flavor doesn’t have the same spices until it’s room temperature; until then, it’s a smooth, chocolaty slate, with mild roast, toast, earth, wood, and a hint of dark fruit. Light-medium bodied, with a smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Good stout.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Transfer from BA review on 10-25-13-
Poured from bottle into a snifter glass
Appearance – The beer pours a super deep brown, nearly pitch black color with just some hints of light shining through. Upon pouring there is a thick three finger brown colored head. The head has an amazing level of retention persisting for over 5 minutes, eventually dwindling to leave a great level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is big of roasted malts and lots of smoke and earthy smells. Along with these smells are some chocolate and coffee smells as well as some oaky and woody smells. There is a little bit of sweetness of molasses that rounds out some of the darker and drier aromas. Aromas of licorice and anise are there as well and little bit of a boozy smell, overall creating a wonderful dark and warming aroma.
Taste – The taste starts out with a drier and very roasted malt and toast taste. A moderately strong coffee flavor is present upfront. The coffee fades a bit more toward the middle of the taste, but surges heavily toward the end. The anise and licorice that were in the nose, appear in the middle of the taste, with the licorice growing strongest midway through the taste and the anise heaviest at the end. Some chocolate, oak, and smoke flavors are present at the start growing stronger as the taste advances and getting moderately pronounced toward the end. While the oak, coffee and smoke grow stronger the roasted malt and toast tastes fade a bit. A small amount of a dark fruit flavor and a bit of molasses develop at the end of the taste sweetening it near the end. With all the flavor transitions and a little bit of earthy hop and alcohol coming to the tongue at the end, a rather woodsy, smoky, and roasty warming flavor is left to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the on the average, to slightly thinner side, with a carbonation level that is on the average side. A slightly thicker body and lower carbonation would likely have suited all the roasty flavor of the brew quite a bit better and the slightly thin body and higher carbonation didn’t accentuate or support all the rather robust flavors well.
Overall – A quite complex and decent drier stout, but really nothing that is all that spectacular. It was worth a try, but not really worth the price of ~ $9.50.

Ok. I admit it. I bought it to drink during the season finale of the show. However it really didn't disappoint at all. A solid stout.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle… Pours black with a small, semi-creamy, fat-bubbled, beige head. The aroma consists of deeply-roasted malts, dark chocolate and caramel with a whisper of damp leather. Full-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and adequate carbonation. The flavor is very nicely balanced and roasty with a carbonic, charred finish.
