COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fire & Blood is a 6.8% ABV Red ale, brewed with pilsner, Cara-60, Midnight Wheat, flaked rye and spelt. Assertive hopping includes CTZ, Styrian Golding and German Tettnang hops. Spiced with de-seeded Ancho chilies. Fire & Blood has a deep, dark red hue with a persistent, creamy, off-white head. Aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, malt & slight spice, followed by a slightly floral and spicy hop character. A fruity, sweetish malt taste gives way to faint drying provided by the hops & rye.

Hard to classify this. Itís technically red/amber in color...but also has belgian yeast...and is also spiced with ancho chili peppers (though they are very very subtle, especially on the palate). Nice combo of belgian spice, rye, carmel, and light chili. Not a fantastic beer, but pretty nice throughout.

Pours dark red with a thick off white head. Aroma is a typical bubble gum flavored Belgian beer. Taste is sweet with a bit of a soapy backend. Seems like a typical Belgian beer masking as a red ale.

750 ml bottle, packaged on 12/23/13, best by 12/2015. Served in a tulip, the beer pours a hazy ruby red/brown color with a couple inch light tan head that stayed around for a long time. Thereís also a lot of lacing. Aroma is yeasty, the brew smells like cloves, dark fruit (raisins, cherries), dark bread and peppery spice (not chili pepper spice). Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but thereís also some nuttiness, apple, earthiness and very light chili pepper flavor noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is medium, itís slick and creamy and itís also well carbonated. I think itís an OK overall brew, however if youíre expecting any chili pepper spicy heat in this brew youíre going to be disappointed. But if you look at this as being a red ale or a Belgian dark ale, itís not a bad brew at all. With that being said, itís not one of my favorite Ommegang selections but it was nice to try once. $7.99 a bottle.

Color is bright red with a light white head. Taste had some fruit coming through. Taste was a little boozy as well. Was pleasantly surprised by the spiciness of the aftertaste.

75 cl bottle. Pours hazy amber with a small tan head. Aroma is phenolic and toasted malty. Bitter, dry and herbal. Bitter and phenolic finish.

Bottle thanks to Colin. It pours hazy orange-amber with a small white head. The nose is sweet, spicy, wood, earth, residual sugars, cake, bread, smoke and dirt. The taste is bitter, wood, brown bread, alcohol, cereal, toast and grain with a dry, spiced finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not a whole lot to it. So-so.

8/09/2014: Ommegang Red and Blood... Dull reddish-brown color with a lofty beige head. Not much to the aroma, but it is reminiscent of the typical Irish Red Ale (exhibiting biscuity malt and a hint of vanilla). As far as taste, it starts out semi-malty with some spicy Belgian yeast with a minor bit of pepper in the finish. The flavor is fine, but nothing special. Where in the hell is the Ancho?! There is barely any pepper flavor and there is not any pepper heat whatsover. As a regular beer, itís fine and all, but as a pepper beer, itís SEVERLY lacking. Without the pepper, this is more or less just yet another typical Belgian ale. Iím honestly VERY disappointed. The license, name, and description is promising, but the beer itself is a let-down. 750 ml corked and caged bottle (6.8% Alc/Vol) from Jungle Jimís International Market in Fairfield, Ohio.

750 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours clear caramel with a moderate tan head that mostly remains and leaves a small amount of fine lace. The nose has big peppery notes paired up with toasted malts, bread, raisins, subtle fruit and a hint of spice. The flavour is mildly sweet up front with toffee, caramel, raisin and subtle fruit paired up with a slight peppery spiciness and delicate hops. It dries out around the middle, as the peppery notes pick up along with some wheat notes. A slight roasted malt character also comes through. Hops provide adequate balance but are not emphasized. The finish is long and spicy with moderate pepper lingering on the palate. It is medium in body with a dryish texture and average carbonation. Overall, an interesting spicy red ale with wheat and peppery notes. Not my favourite style, but a nice example nonetheless. 2014-08-05

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with full head that settles to a moderate foamy head. Aromas of dark brown sugar, roasted malts, and light vegetables. Flavors are similar with a heavy emphasis on dry roasted malts and additional dry spicy notes. Canít really get the chilies though these may come across as a slight burnt flavor.
