3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Yard House Houston. If pours an unclear brown body under a dense, finger thick beige head. The aroma is spiced and Belgian, with prunes, some roasted notes and a grassy, piney hop touch. The flavor has a roasted malty touch in the back, prunes and some caramel and spices, and with some hoppy bitterness dealing with the sweet malts. Full body, pleasant carbonation, and a lasting finish which feels quite dry. Sure a beer worth repeating. 140511

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle, from the Gibsons LDB.
Murky dark red. Aroma has more fruity acid notes than you’d expect. Malty, caramel mostly with some fruity character, and just a touch of ancho. Not entirely cohesive.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 c&c from Bine & Vine. Opened with quite a pop. Pours dark copper iwth a beige head. Aroma of darkish fruit and some light, but insistent, pepper. Med body or better. Flavor is Belgian yeast, maybe banana ester (yes on that) with a little spice that could be rye and some pepper aspects. Still, there’s no question that this is "classic" Belgian ale. Peppers set aside, that is.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tap. Pours a clear brown color with an average frothy off-white head that lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate complex sweet dark fruit & rye and yeast aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy yeast dark sweet flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Interesting good brew.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A reddish amber ale with a thick frothy mocha head. In aroma, fragrant caramel malt with orange peel, coriander, light licorice, herbaceous hops, very nice. In mouth, a sweet fruity caramel malt with dark fruits, curacao, coriander, herbaceous and resinous hops, alcohol warmth, very nice. Bottle from Bassett in Canton NY.

Brown pour, light head. Odd beer. Peppers, rye, hops, dried dark fruits, slightly vegetal. Not sure about this one.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at RBESG ’14, day 4 not so grand tasting at Craft Clerko, 10/08/14 from the Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa.
Hazed chestnut brown with a decently appointed beige covering.
Nose is Belgian yeast esters, spice, candied fruit peel, tangy dark fruit rinds.
Taste comprises much the same, grassy, straw, yeast esters, tangy dark fruits, light rye bread.
Medium + body, spritzy carbonation a touch OTT for me, candied fruit peels resonate in the close.
Ok Belgian stylee that has to be assigned as ’speciality pissing grain’ just cos it has bastard rye in it !
