COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fire & Blood is a 6.8% ABV Red ale, brewed with pilsner, Cara-60, Midnight Wheat, flaked rye and spelt. Assertive hopping includes CTZ, Styrian Golding and German Tettnang hops. Spiced with de-seeded Ancho chilies. Fire & Blood has a deep, dark red hue with a persistent, creamy, off-white head. Aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, malt & slight spice, followed by a slightly floral and spicy hop character. A fruity, sweetish malt taste gives way to faint drying provided by the hops & rye.

Fire and Blood is a murky deep red brew with a thick persistent head of off white active bubbles. The nose is very reminiscent of a belgian tripel. Hops, floral esters and maybe a faint hint of ancho chilies. Taste is mild at first. broadens on mid and really blossoms on the finish. very strong vegetable type presence. medium malt. hops are restrained. a bit of heat. good bitters and dry finish. a very interesting and different beer. Body a bit active and fizzy on the tongue.

Pours ruby red with a small off white head. Aroma is spicy chilies, rye and slight floral hops. Taste is spicy off the top, warming the mouth with some rye spice. Although it is not overpowering. I have had some chilie beers and hated them, this I can get through. Hop bitterness finishes out the beer.

750 ml corked and caged bottle. Unclear deep dark ruby red, thick tan froth slowly settles and lasts. Spicy yeasty aroma. Taste is Belgian yeast forward, spicy tangy rye, sweet c-malts, herbal floral spicy hops. Average carbonation, medium bodied, moderately hopped. Some vegetal heat towards the end. Sweet belgian yeasty aroma, kinda like a belgian singel. Mild spicy floral components. The only hint of chilies comes from a ever so slight heat that evolves in the back of your throat as you imbibe over time, but is very, very faint.

Hazy toffee red pour. Tall dense foamy head. Aroma is of toffee, little bit of dark fruit too, some flowery yeast. Taste is mostly Belgian yeast up front moving into some lightly roasted malt to finish.

Transfer from BA review on 3-26-14- Poured from bottle into a tulip glass Appearance – The beer pours a deep copper-mahogany color with a massive and thick foamy cream colored head. The head has a great level of retention, slowly fading over time to leave a great level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell – A big aroma of yeast and spice greets the nose. The spice is a blend of clove, coriander, and nutmeg with a bit hot chili pepper there as well. Along with these aromas is a decently strong toasted bready smell with some graininess and rye aromas mixed within. With a rather moderately strong showing of dark fruit aromas of cherry and fig, the smell is very reminiscent of a Belgian strong dark with a little less fruit, a little more hot spice, and a bit more grain. Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter stone fruit and caramel flavor with a nice rye and bready taste mixed within. The darker fruit flavors intensify with more cherry and plum growing as the taste moves on. A yeasty taste, while somewhat lighter right at the start, gets stronger as the flavor moves to the middle and the end, bringing with it spice of coriander and clove. While almost absent from the start of the taste, as the flavor moves forward more and more chili taste comes to the tongue. It never becomes too powerful and just adds a nice bit of chili pepper to the taste, which actually complements the increase in the sweeter flavors of the stone fruits rather well. While the fruit flavors increase, they eventually decrease again more toward the finish of the taste, with their loss really allowing the bready and some newly arrived grassy and floral flavors to show a bit more. With the tastes that are left at the finish of the flavor profile, one is left with a somewhat crisp, darker fruit, bready, and nicely spiced (both chili and otherwise) and hopped flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the average to slightly lighter side for a brew of 6.8 % with a carbonation level that is a bit more on the effervescent side. The body and carbonation are rather nice for the dark fruit, chili, and spice flavors of the brew, but all the while still having enough of a body to upholding the bready and malty flavors well. Overall it was rather nice. Overall – A tasty brew overall. The light chili spice flavor combines with the stone fruits, hop, and the bready and grainy flavors nicely. While at ~ $10 for a bottle it wouldn’t become one I would go to frequently in light their flagships, it was a very interesting and fun brew to try none the less.
