COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fire & Blood is a 6.8% ABV Red ale, brewed with pilsner, Cara-60, Midnight Wheat, flaked rye and spelt. Assertive hopping includes CTZ, Styrian Golding and German Tettnang hops. Spiced with de-seeded Ancho chilies. Fire & Blood has a deep, dark red hue with a persistent, creamy, off-white head. Aromas of ripe fruit, raisins, malt & slight spice, followed by a slightly floral and spicy hop character. A fruity, sweetish malt taste gives way to faint drying provided by the hops & rye.

Yes, a straight up 4.0 from a draft tulip at Standard Market. Body is solid and dark red, even brown, under a stable eggshell head. The beer menu did not mention chiles, and I could not name them in the nose or taste. I did a rich malty smell with what I thought was a tang of sour cherry. The taste was quite dense and complex. A little stone fruit ester against a slightly citrusy hop load. I counted the spicy taste as coming from its ale yeast and maybe some wheat or rye, again missing out on chile. Finished with notes of cinnamon and red wine.

In bottle .. this beer was just OK. Aroma at first while a little cold was not good (almost like wet dog), though as it warmed, the spice notes started to come out. The beer was quite light bodied, and the chilies were a little too subtle. I hoped to enjoy this beer, but it was OK at best.

The aroma is solid with malt hops and fruit. The appearance is amber. The taste is like the aroma. The palate is smooth. Overall good.

Really malty with a bit of spice and taste of husk and bread. Lacks a bit of hops and other bitterness but makes up in the other end ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Battleship. Pours a cloudy reddish brown/amber color with an off white head. Aroma is of yeast, spices, clove and a little orange peel. Heavier palate. Flavors are of malts, yeast, grain, clove and a little booze.

Bottle: Poured a deep copper color ale with a nice thick off-white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of light spicy rye notes with some caramelized malt notes is OKish. Taste is also dominated by spicy rye notes with some caramelized malt notes. Body is about average with good carbonation doesn’t’ really stand out and chilies notes are way too subtle.

Bottle shared at the RBESG 2014, grand tasting 10/08/2014 Craft Beer Co Clerkenwell. Huge thanks to Ken for this one. Caramel / orange coloured pour with a lasting big off white head. Slight haze. Aroma is mineral, sweaty caramel and some earthy honey malts. Flavour is composed of honey, caramel malts with Belgian yeast notes. Slight earthy finish. Palate is sweet, sticky, highly carbonated, medium bodied.

750ml bottle. Cloudy raisin colour, some orange red at the edges. Large shaving cream head. Dusty, dried fruit aroma. Dusty taste, some spicy tang, not a lot of sweetness. Overall, something different. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

APPEARANCE - great looking ale - definitely fits red ale expectations, but also is fairly cloudy. Solid white head. NOSE - definite Belgian notes, but lite. FLAVOR - Where's the ANCHO!?!?! Has good Belgian beer flavor, but I get ZERO ancho, and very little red. NOTES - I'd like the beer better if it were claimed to be a Belgian that's colored like a red ale. It's good, but not what it advertises.
