3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a Trappist glass. Hazy golden with big white head. Aroma is nice citrus, medium/light body, well carbonated, and thick medium-bubble lacing. Taste is citrus, bitter orange peel, and some yeasty. This is a good tripel.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Good sized offwhite head of mostly fine bubbles and surprisingly light carbonation. Yeasty aroma with lots of fresh fruit, peaches, straw and lemongrass. Color is a cloudy golden orange. Lively in the mouth with a noticeable alcohol presence and warming. A tad of sugary sweetness up front then melds into a herbal and grassy flavor. A surprisingly strong malt backbone for this brew with more ripe fruit and yeast. Your typical saison on steroids. A pretty decent brew but not worth the price it was initially selling for. Glad i found it on sale finally.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a clear golden yellow, with a persistent white head that leaves good lacing. Nose is Belgian yeast--cloves, bananas, dark fruit. Taste is sublime-malty with a touch of sweetness, creamy mouth feel and a smooth finish. Delightful, outstanding strong ale.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
sample at mondial de la bière 2015 - mtl. hazy almost cloudy medium dark golden with a reviving and stuffy white cap, nicely lacing. spicy toasted very fruity maltiness - doughy, layers of fruity caramel, ripened pear juice - tender peppery peaches also, yeast, woodsy and grassy, bright carbonation, mediumbody - oily; warming fruity-herbal-grassy-spicy finish. caramel cardamom-spiced apple sauce. belgian-style/belgium pioneers that succeed for an interesting brew but does not quite take it to the bext level.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Mondial 2015. Pours a clear golden with a small white head that fades into a rim and leave good lacing. Nose really perfumey, spicy and just belgian overall. Taste is of fruits, sweet candy (think cotton candy), caramel, spices and moderately sweet. Body is medium, carbonation low to moderate and mouthfeel is a little heavy. Overall a pretty good one, I’ll try it again if I can find it in a small bottle and in prime condition.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Big yeast. Not overly spiced. Biscuit, banana, cream of wheat. Sweet yet not cloying. Subtle earthy hops dryness. Bit of alcohol. Balanced, interesting brew....

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottled, 11/24/14, on shelf until March 2014, refrigerated until drunk on 5/30/15
Clear, tiny-bubbled copper-blonde body is topped by a large, but quickly receding white head that sits at cover.
Chouffey in the nose; that is to say, sweet and cakey with peach and vanilla esters. Booze apparent but not aggravating. Bits of white pepper phenol as well as a moderate amount of banana.
I really don’t see how Brasserie d’Achouffe ever got famous. I really don’t care much for their beers and put them in the same class as most of the stuff from Huyghe. Pretty crude yeast profile, all told, though not offensive. I’m definitely over-reacting to how well-respected the stuff is. But anyways, suffice to say, I’m not a fan. The last glass of Chouffe I had, I didn’t even finish...
Back to the beer, diving in, it’s perhaps, a bit better in flavor. Still too much banana (can’t state ester of banana in beer) but at least some mustiness/dustiness from the Ommegang yeast. Sweet, yet kind of thin, somehow with perfumey booziness sharpening the finish. Clean, I guess? Maybe a bit of corn-like notes and just boozier and boozier as it warms up. I shouldnt have to race to drink my beer while cold, being afraid of the rampant alcohol with warming. Are they using a heavy filter on their beers now?? Really lackluster texture and fizzy carbonation. Not much here to speak well of. Yikes. I think we’re takin’ a walk to the ol’ drain....
