COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hoppy, farmhouse style ale has a champagne like effervescence with a crisp but light on the tongue finish. Similar to the Belgian Saison style , this beer serves well as an aperitif. Hennepin has a majestic golden hue. The style is called Grisette or farm house and is considered to be in the domain of the Belgian Saisons.

Light gold, looks like a lager, quite clear.Very bubbly white head. Smells quite strong, like a belgian style ale should. Smells of cinnamon, cloves, vanilla, and definitely coriander & citrus. Very tangy/sour flavor, a little metallic, citrus sting to it. Can't really taste the alcohol. Reminds me of Unibroue. Would rather drink a Chimay White or Blue really. Good beer, perhaps a little too carbonated. Nice bitter/dry finish.

bottled: They did it right! these kids at ommegang made a good tasting beer here. nice and yellow clowdy with creamy white head that was quite thick and dispitated slowly with lace. the nose on this was very impressive, if i didnt know it was from cooperstown i would have instantly thought belgium. musty wheat smell. fruity flavor with spice and citrus, wheat. very smooth on the palate and little to no aftertaste. alchohol hidden well, easier to drink then others in this class maybe because it has slightly less alcohol?? but i thouroghly enjoyed this, i think it was only 3.99 at trader joes, even a better find at that price. go get it and drink it!

The first pour is a clear, glowing deep golden amber. The second pour turns cloudy and darker. The head is massive and stiff. It fades slowly and leaves a thick sheet on the sides of the glass. Beautiful beer. Orange and cloves on the aroma. Very bright and happy. The taste is also very bright and spicy. Fruity esters meld nicely with the orange flavor and a nice straw and caramel malt. A slight bitterness lingers in the finish. Excellent.

(Cave-aged 2000 version) Clear yellow, orange shine. Thick, stable luxurious white head. Orangey, spicey, but biscuity nose. Serious signs of oxidation. Taste of oxidation too. Malty taste, crystal and pale; citrussy flavour retronasal. Well-bodied. Alcohol very apparent, compared to the very light Hennepin. Yes, this IS better than what I had sofar from Ommegang. But the oxidation is not going to be everybody's choice. Remains to be seen what would be normal ageing, and what is due to the 'cave'...

This cloudy, honey-gold beer has a bright, white head. The nose is yeasty with loads of heavy, sweet malt and light undertones of citrus hops. A slight touch of mustiness as it warms. The palate is medium-bodied with warm bread, soft fruits and light spice. The finish is once again yeasty, but semi-sweet with velvety malt and old lemons.

A well made saison. I enjoyed this beer with a meal of venison. Goes very well with red meats. Produces an excellent head. A nice fruity beer. The brewers in Cooperstown have created a fine saison.

Fine looking beer, golden with a frothy white head that lasts and lasts. Quite yeasty and spicy, yet slickly smooth and a pleasant earthiness. Dry finish balances this quality NY brew.

Wonderful saison experience. First thing you notice is the spicey aroma and earthly flavor to match. Critics seem to be either in the "Beer is not supposed to be spicy" category or "Good, but since it's from NY it must be second rate" Don't listen! This is a great value to boot.

Mostly opaque with a milky-orange glow. Clean, yeasty nose. Tingly, cloud-like carbonation; somewhat lightish on the tongue. Although, down "below," a silky-smooth malt texture coated my tongue here and there. Moderate flavors of orange, alcohol, yeast, and Oatmeal curiously enough. Overall, flavors mingled well, and nothing really overpowered anything else. Probably my favorite Ommegang brew.
