This hoppy, farmhouse style ale has a champagne like effervescence with a crisp but light on the tongue finish. Similar to the Belgian Saison style , this beer serves well as an aperitif. Hennepin has a majestic golden hue. The style is called Grisette or farm house and is considered to be in the domain of the Belgian Saisons.

750 ml corked and caged bottle, different label, same UPC code, brewed and bottled by Duvel Moortgat NV, Puurs, Belgium. Initially clear dirty yellow, big white lasting foam settles slowly. Aroma is mouth watering, fruity, citrus, yeasty spicy. Fruity orange citrus yeasty spicy taste, mild malts, faint funk. Average carbonation, medium bodied, moderately hopped. ABV well hidden, yeasty, citrus tang increases, dry finish. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

Effervescent thick foamy 3" white head with good lacing; even hazy pale gold amber liquid. Well-balanced taste with complex spicy and fruity yeast, malt sweetness and pleasant bitterness. Very smooth and dry clean finish. Very enjoyable and surprisingly easy to drink as I was expecting a more assertive (and perhaps cloying) beer for a rustic farmhouse ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On draught at Bailey’s Taproom. Super fizzy clear light golden color. Aroma is light sweet fruity yeast with a tart funk note. Taste is bubblegum, clove, refreshing yeast, and a subtle spice component. Effervescent and has a clean finish.

Ommegang Hennepin doesn’t seem to fit the Saison style. Little aroma coming from the nice white head sitting atop a bright orange pour. Taste is more like a witbier and has no sour notes expected in a Saison. The taste is a little flat after the swallow. Hennepin is a good beer with food but not a standout in this category.

Smells grapes, lemons, plum skins. Taste sweet, then goes sour. Lots going on in the aftertaste. Belgian yeastiness, a little bready, med bodied, coats your tough with a pleasant estuary taste. Rich. A bit of metallic ting but not in a bad way, more of in a roasty vienna malts way. Taste old school. Gonna be going back to this one a few more times. Heaps going on here.

Poured form a 12oz bottle. A cloudy wheatish gold. Yeast and pepper on the nose, with hints of soft woods. Fizzy in the glass. Medium to high carbonation. Flavor is lemony, with cloves and black pepper, as well as barn and Isaly-esque woodiness. Very bright. Bubbles as it is brought in over the gums. Lingers dry.

Hennepin pours a half clear, half cloudy light yellow with a thick foamy ivory head that lasts a good while. The aroma is bread and cheese. The flavor is bread, cheese, a little earthy and a touch of caramel. Overall this is a nice beer. I would be more than happy to have another.
