COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This hoppy, farmhouse style ale has a champagne like effervescence with a crisp but light on the tongue finish. Similar to the Belgian Saison style , this beer serves well as an aperitif. Hennepin has a majestic golden hue. The style is called Grisette or farm house and is considered to be in the domain of the Belgian Saisons.

Beer No. 57 – Ommegang Hennepin

I keep a bit of everything in the house because you never know when a summer craving will come a little early.

STYLE: Saison / Farmhouse Ale

ABV: 7.7%

LOOK: Less than yellow, refreshing. Ideal one-finger head that doesn’t resist a subtle sip.

NOSE: It won’t shine here. And that’s OK because that rather misses the point. Loafy and dry.

MOUTH: White pepper, nonfat butter, bitter salad greens. It’s not – memorable. On the front, too much rind and not enough zest. On the back, a quiet lagerish coat.

Aroma of cloves, Belgian yeast and a hint of banana. Pours a cloudy golden color with a lasting white well laced head. Moderately carbonated, creamy with a sweet taste of banana, cloves and white pepper. Sweet spicy finish.

From Umami Burger in New York Large white head with a golden head. I think the smell is a bit better than the taste thanks to the extra caramel/sweetness. Quite hoppy. Super refreshing with some orange and a kick of spices but nothing overwhelms. Quite bitter at the end but very refreshing and there is a bit of sweetness to balance out it. Not taste of alcohol. Excellent Saison

On tap, Barley and Grain upper west side. Pours hazy lemon color white head. Aroma is lemon, pepper, coriander, spice, slight clove, Belgian yeast. Definitely an American take on the style. Flavor is good mix of farmhouse style funk, and a drier version. Very nice. Again, lemon, pepper, coriander, esters, Belgian spices, clove. Nice.

This is a lovely representation of the saison style. You get the farmhouse yeast nose and flavors, but also a magnificent effervescence of a Belgian tripel, along with a soft sweetness. Carbonation is spot on and there are some banana and clove notes. Good stuff.

I’m not a big fan of the style, but this is a really good one. Very low bitterness. Moderate yeast.

Pours a light golden with low white head. Aroma of bananas, pears and yeast. Taste is similar with some spices as well. Good carbonation. Decent brew.

Bomber. Thanks to Justin. Fruity fumes, a touch smokey, mashed peaches, and coriander in the nose. Clear gold straw color. Sharp fruity initial, some deep spicing, alcohol rises up in mid palate, and some light yeast bite and bitterness in finish. Medium body, very smooth. Nice stuff. The fumes and alc flavor do intrude a bit.
