COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The TTB won’t let us call the beer Obamagang on the keg label. So it will be known legally as Inauguration Ale 2009, but the tap handles will be more...um...direct. The style lies between a porter and stout, with a bit of Kriek and a touch of chocolate blended in. It will be on draft only, beginning with the inauguration - in limited areas including DC, NYC, Syracuse, Philly, Chicago and Boston. We will donate a percentage of sales to charities in the respective cities where the beer is sold, and we’ve asked our distributors to match our donations and pick the local charities. (Also please note that the beer is not an endorsement of Obama.)

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Dark chocolate brown body, light brown head, thick, good lacing S: Mostly chocolate, some toffee and caramel malt notes.. some hop bitterness is in there too.. didn’t notice any hints of alcohol in the nose. T: Not overly complex, but a nice balance of chocolate, caramel, toffee, piney hop bitterness... all of the flavors are not overwhelming and are soft and rounded M: Creamy, but not too heavy... smooth. O: Easy drinking dark belgian ale... nicely done, a shame that such an easy drinking beer will only be a one-off. [old review]

Reviewed from notes. On tap at the Bavarian Lodge. Pours a very dark brown with a light, thin tan head and some good lacing. The nose brings quite a bit of roast alongside some darker fruits, chocolate, and hints of coffee. The taste is really a nice combination of dry, roasted malt and a bit of semi-dark sweetened fruit. Mouthfeel is nice with a medium body and good carbonation. Drinks very well, and is a few of this style that I’ve had. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 10-19-2010

Sampled on draft at brewvival. Very dark brown pour with mahogany highlights and tan head. Sweet molasses nose with anise and brown sugar. Some cherry notes? Not as good as I had hoped, but still enjoyable.

Had this bottle a ways back but wanted to get my rating on here. A blend of stout, porter, and kreik. Shaved cocao and a bit or almond.

Milk chocolate and a strong chocolate syrup nose. Brown, thick, yellow head. Flavor is of chocolate covered cherries, but with the alcohol concealed. Dark chocolate finish. Much better than Chocolate Indulgence, which was a relative disappointment for me.

draft at Brewvival. pours a hazy brown with hints of red and a dusty, beige head with slight lacing. aroma is very nice with roasted malts, black cherry, chocolate, almond, and hints of earth and sweet caramel. flavor is exactly what i’d expect from the porter+stout+kriek category with sweet, chocolate covered cherries, cocoa, a touch of hop bitterness, and light notes of coffee. palate is medium bodied, slightly drying, and highly carbonated with a bittersweet finish. overall, interesting and tasty brew.
