hopheaven (83), Eureka, California, USA Jan 24, 2009 A cloudy, golden beer with a bright, effervescent head. Smells strongly of coriander, ginger and leather. It suggests an intensely spiced, sour beer. The aroma is so potent it clears the nostrils, an effect not unlike breathing in steam off of hot tea. The Brett yeast is very pronounced, almost undesirably so. Some sweetness comes through suggesting the strength of this beer. Earthy, spicy hop undertone with a moderately dry finish. Tart with a hint of bitterness but not sour. A very interesting and unsual beer. AR (417), Georgia, USA Jan 23, 2009 This is a nice saison ale that is smooth on the palate. It has a mellow, but sour, lemon flavoring. Dry aftertaste. ajm (903), Los Angeles, California, USA Jan 23, 2009 Bottle from Whole Foods Albuquerque. I never would have quite guessed this was a saison because it isn’t too grassy or green - not as in your face. It’s almost like a sour that never quite soured. Very wild-tasting, very refreshing, noticeably funky. Hops aren’t as present as the label might lead you to believe. It’s there, but this is no Taras Boulba. tarheels86 (704), Washington DC, USA Jan 17, 2009 750 mL from Sam’s Quik Shop in Durham, NC. Pours a cloudy bright orange with a huge white head thanks to the tulip- beautiful. Head settles down nicely with crazy lacing. Aroma is very funky with barnyard animals, yeast, earth, sour fruits, kumquat. Taste is tart, citrusy, and dry with a quick whiff barn stalls. Finish is tart and dry with faint hops. 8% is well hidden. Very funky like a lambic. Interesting saison. sunevdj (1765), Copenhagen OE, Denmark Jan 17, 2009 Bottle with da boys. Pours a clear pale yellow with a diminishing white head. Sweet and some what bitter. Aromas of brett and a hint of feet. Quite high carbonation. Medium to light body. Bitter and bretty finish. Glad it isn’t more bretty. jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jan 16, 2009 Batch 2. Pours gorgeous, perfect golden, hazy, with a large off-white head that laces well and diminishes moderately. Tangerine, peach, and sharp cheddar in the nose. Sharp flowery hops, peppery yeast, grass, the bitter part of the lemon peel. Oily mouthfeel. Good. fidelis83 (709), Clinton, Iowa, USA Jan 13, 2009 Batch 3. Pours hazy pale bright amber, with a fuzzy white head that lasts forever. Aroma is tart unripe fruit, summertime walnut skins, wet hay, yeasty yeastiness, plenty of dirty earth, plenty of grass and some herbal hops. Flavor is of musty grass, wet tree bark, old straw, musty orange peels, mild spicy yeast, and a mild earthy hop. blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Jan 8, 2009 Batch 2, around 9 months old. Pours gold with a fluffy white head. The aroma has tart pear, lemon, bretty funk, spices, and floral notes. The flavor is well balanced with a light and dry bretty presence, spices, and just a touch of lemon. Nice tart and dry finish. Very nice.
