CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Nov 19, 2008 Honkeybra recommendation. Crushed with Jakebra. Funk like George Clinton. Almost as Brett as the Favre. Pretty surprisingly sexy. chimaybier (51), Redding, California, USA Oct 24, 2008 Bottle purchased at Raja Liquors in Livermore, CA. The pour: cloudy, light caramel color, with nice head retnetion and brussels lace. The bouquet: heavy on the bretta and hoppiness- (it reminded me of Orval!) orangy, citrusy. The palate: heavy on the hoppiness- quite sharp. Very herbal, very earthy. (Again, a lot like Orval!) The finish: The aftertaste for me was somewhat short, but very refreshing... A masterpiece! May the brewers at Ommegang be blessed by GOD. hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Oct 23, 2008 Sampled at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival. Clear yellow color with a small, fizzy white head. Damn funky aroma of brettanomyces. A lot of fresh hay, wet earth and barnyard notes sticking out. Signature Saaz hops character is there too. Flavor is mildly spicy with undertones of ginger and herbs. Pronounced yeast biscuit on the finish. Skinnyviking (4142), Copenhagen, Denmark Oct 20, 2008 Draught. High creamy and laslting white head. Light yellow body. Sweet fruity aroma. Mild sweet fruiy flavor with low carbonation and a short aftertaste. garmonbozia (225), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Oct 16, 2008 Another thanks to Mike for this beer. Very nice sippin beer with a huge white head. color was a hazy yellow with tons of tiny bubble raising to the top. Very tart with some bitterniess as well. great lacing that stuck to the glass. lots of floaties in this beer. minch25 (346), Columbus, Ohio, USA Oct 12, 2008 Updated: Aug 3, 2009Hazy yellow/gold orange; fast stream of tiny bubbles travelling up the middle; thick frothy eggshell-white head. Totally bretty aroma. Very dry. Very Orvallish. Hides its 8% well. Dried out hop bitterness. (not overwhelming) yeast presence. To sum up, this is like Orval on a pretty good day. Totally kick ass. thewolf (5623), Kolding, Denmark Oct 11, 2008 Bottle. [thank you, drmatt]
Pours light hazy yellow with a great, frothy, white head with super lacing. Aroma is malty, clear brett, apples, oranges and some hops. Great, dry mouthfeel. Flavour is pleasantly hoppy, vanilla, hops and oranges. The brett is nice, and never interferes with the overall experience. Nice. Brigadier (1212), Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA Oct 8, 2008 750 ml bottle
I have been sitting on this for about a year now waiting for the brett to do its thing. With another bottle in the cellar I figured I would crack one open during a cool fall evening. It was actually pretty good though as far as Ommegang goes a slight disappointment. I may drink my next bottle fairly soon just to clear some cellar space for more interesting beers that need time to age.
Aroma / Appearance - A huge foam rushed from the bottle almost as soon as I opened it. Sitting in the glass it eventually settled to a blend of about half foam and half liquid. The suffocated body possessed a bronze hue. The funk had begun to take over though in a subtle way. Dry straw, wheat, and a bready base made a nice combination. Overall though it was not as sour or funky as I was hoping it could have been.
Flavor / Palate - Toasted white bread with a drizzle of honey flowed lightly over the tongue before fading in the throat. Even though this is not super bretty it has begun to make an appearance towards the middle. Tart at first it soon moistens the throat. While a very solid saison I’m not sure I want to pick up more; the price would have to be pretty low to consider it.
