BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 15, 2008 Batch 1 bottle from dmac, thanks Dave. Poured a hazy golden-yellow color with a thick white head that faded to a layer and left some spotty lacing. Aroma of light wheat, yeast, some light spices (mainlt ginger), and some a nice fruitiness that includes citrus (orange peel), light banana, and a hint of funk. Opens with a light bitterness with some tart funk, this leads into a barnyard yeast taste with some nice spiciness (ginger, light coriander) with some tart flavor from the brett and some bitter earthiness from the hops. Nice, I wonder how much longer this beer would hold up. Thanks again Dave, I appreciate it. KieferUGA (461), Atlanta, Georgia, USA May 13, 2008 750 ml bottle. Batch #1. Pours a clear, light gold color. Aroma of wet hay, some light citrus notes, pepper. Flavor is dry and peppery to start out. Lemon peel and some coriander as well towards the middle of the tongue. The funk starts to come out as the beer opens up. Slight hint of alcohol at the finish. brentfeesh (1030), Gadsden, Alabama, USA May 13, 2008 750 ml bottle. Golden yellow-hazy pour with a medium head. Farmhouse funk dominates the aroma with hints of banana. Unfortunately the sour brett presence is not yet full blown. Although, I’m wondering if I’m not happy in this case. What I am detecting seems like it will be too dry and bitterly-sour (if that makes since) for my taste. As it is, it’s not bad. Bright fruit, hay, and barnyard flavors with citrus peal. Semi-medium body with a wet mouth feel and semi-dry finish. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden May 12, 2008 Bottled. Thanks omhper.
Light hazy, golden colour with a nice, lasting bubbly head. Milky, citric with fresh, near sorbet-like brett-profile. Blond berries. Very clean. Indra (2023), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA May 10, 2008 Updated: Oct 11, 2009750ml bottle, Batch #1 - June ’07. Aroma takes a few sniffs to pull out some of the complexities, but once this is done reveals pale, dusty, sweet malts, leafy, herbal hops, lemon citrus, green apple, faint ginger, menthol and some musty, doughy yeast which is augmented by the light brett character here. Hazy light-medium golden color with a lasting, fine-bubbled head and spots of lacing. Flavor profile is very quickly sweet and fruity to begin, turning citric, mildly spicy and peppery, and finishing with a stronger suggestion of brett funk than indicated by the aroma, combined with a light dosage of bitterness and lingering dried, leafy, tea-like herbal tinges. Palate is dry and smoothly effervescent, body is medium-full. I seem to have warmed up to this stuff a bit over the course of the bottle, I suppose initially expecting something a tad more bombastic, I suppose (no pun intended). doubleo (1096), San Diego, California, USA May 5, 2008 750ml bottle from Holiday Wine Cellar. Marked Batch #1, June 2007. Pours cloudy yellow with a fluffy white head, some lace, and good retention. Smells sweet and bready with a big, somewhat funky sour smell, a little bit of lemon as well. Tastes slightly sour and funky, bready and malty and yeasty, slightly sweet. Medium bodied with vibrant carbonation. elcaballo (101), Beverly Hills, California, USA May 4, 2008 Aroma is funk with some yest in there...its tastey with the brett coming out in the flavor for sure...Still its not as funky as a lot of saison’s which makes this beer very drinkable. I am not a huge fan of the style but this was pretty good MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA May 2, 2008 750ml - Aroma is spicy yeast, bread dough, lemon zest, subtle grassy hops and a touch of barnyard funk. Pours transparent gold with lots of bubbles rising to a medium head and great lacing. Flavor is initially doughy yeast followed by a quick zap of spice and brett tartness. Not too funky. Palate starts creamy and finishes sour. A tasty saison
