jb (1024), Rochester, New York, USA Jan 19, 2008 Hazy pale yellow, full creamy thick head. Yeasty doughy aroma with bananas. Palate is sharp with a nice tart apple taste, different but good. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 19, 2008 Funky aroma, although levels off as it warms to room temperature. Very light colour with white head. Very little spices other than pepper. Like a Cantillon unfermented ale. WIld ale, and not harsh on the palate. Slightly acidic requiring food, but no different taste by course.
Jabswitch (206), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Jan 18, 2008 Cloudy yellow similar to hefe. Sweet smell. First taste was of alcohol but this was quickly maked by sweetness and fruitiness. Quite drinkable. The 25 oz. bottle is more thann enough for an evening’s enjoyment. Another in a line of quallity offerings from Ommegang. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Jan 17, 2008 Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy straw color with a thin white head. Nice lightly fruity aroma with a slight touch of funk, no real acidic smells. Taste is very dry up front, with some funk coming in after the dryness hits the palate. Although the funk component is light, it compliments the malt base well. The spice component is subtle but tasty. A good saison, will try to age another one longer. ericnixon (719), Northampton, Massachusetts, USA Jan 16, 2008 From the first batch that I’ve been ageing for seven months. Broke in my new super-mega-special Sam Adams beer glasses to try this beer with. It is a pale cloudy yellow color with a lingering faint slick of a head. Spicy/straw aroma with faint yeasty smell in there as well. Very clean mouthfeel with a lingering puckery-ness in the mouth after the swallow. One of the better saisons that I’ve had. Not sure about the mushroom cloud on the label though. DrHomolka (726), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 16, 2008 750ml, batch 1 from June. Waited to try this in hopes of picking up some funkiness. Pours light, cloudy golden color with a tremendousy rocky white head that leaves substantial thick lace down the entire glass. Aroma is spicy, lemon, a bit of pepper, slightly toasty and biscuity. Brett is mildly present in the aroma, reminding me of a subdued Jolly Pumpkin or Fantome. It’s definitely there but not as much as I would have hoped. Taste is super dry, highly drinkable with the alcohol incredibly well hidden. Slightly bready malts and a little bit of peppery zing in the flavor as well. This is pretty good and one of the better American saisons I’ve had. If I weren’t expecting a little more funkiness I think this would have impressed me even more. I think this will be better with more time.
