Commercial Description:
Belgian pale & pilsner malts w/ Styrian Golding for bittering and Saaz for aroma. Ginger predominates the spicing. Fermented in primary with Ommegang's house yeast, followed by secondary with Brettanomyces bruxellensis. Dry-hopped in secondary w/ a blend of hops; Tettnang being the stand-out. The flavor profile is very herbal with an earthy undertone (very fitting for a Belgian-style farmhouse ale). The dry finish and pronounced hop aromas hide the 8% abv very well. Dangerously drinkable for its strength and character.

Yellow, with a big white head. Toasty and bready aroma. Nice bready and yeasty flavors at first, then a left turn into odd, weird funky flavors. Rather subtle, but definately odd. Frankly, I need to drink some more to really grasp what is going on. On tap at the Thirsty Monk, Asheville.

Funky fun! Yeasty and with some big qualities, creating that lovely quality where it pitches between straight up gueuze and white wine. Interesting citrus dimension, especially. Decent palate, somewhat sour, with a bit of life. Excellent beer.

750 ml bottle from FrumtyDumpty! Batch 1 June 2007; Nose of yeast, light sopices, and very lioght horseblanket notes; hazy gold with a big white head; flavor is light tartness, nutmeg, cinnamon, yeast, and light peppery spiciness.

BCTC - had this one after the Biere de Mars, and found it to be far superior - cloudy golden color, with abundant, sticky lace - extremely floral aroma, with a mild sweetness and fruity esters of strawberry and citrus - semi-dry on the palate, with just a mild brett character that is actually easy to miss - the fruits from the aroma make their presence known, along with a mild spiciness and lots of earthy notes - beautifully crafted.

The aroma is very malty with hops, spice, and herbs. The appearance is hazy gold with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma with a bitter herbal finish. The palate is decent. Overall a nice beer.

Tap- Pours cloudy with a white head. Has a barnyard scent. Flavor is slightly tart, a bit earthy and has a lemon-like zest. Balanced.

Uncellared. Fresh, spritzy aroma with light pears and hops. Lightly hazed, big white head in the tulip glass. Good bottle, bad label. So far this week, I’ve had Hop-pocalypse and Ommegeddon - I’m working a Dr. Strangelove theme here. Moderately phenolic, medicinal, notes of herbal bitters, flowers and rubber sneakers. The hops come out all asses and elbows without smooth coordination. Yellow grapefruit rind in the medium-quick finish. Medium light body. Ginger on the intake/inhale.

On tap. I’m not sure if this keg was from the same batch that was bottled, or if it was older (as I have not had it before), but there was a definite brett presence, although it wasn’t too tart. I’ll update in a year with older bottle rating, but for now...

Poured cloudy yellow. Funky, bretty aroma, huge hay kind of thing. Very wheaty, husky taste, more brett, a tinge of sweetness and a bit of spice. Brettyness was full and delicious without being quite as musky or dominant as in Orval. Very nice stuff.
