Commercial Description:
Rare Vos is flemmish for "Sly Fox," and the name of one of Brussels’ great cafes. It has a sweetly fruity malt character and yeasty spiciness. A fine dose of yeast permits the beer to mature and mellow in the bottle.

Decent golden appearance. Nice carbonation, solid head. Aroma is slightly bitter/fruity. Flavor is kind of a let down. Far too light...I think the right notes are there, tart apple, citrus, spice, but they just aren’t prominent enough. Decent beer.

Nice, golden color. Sweet, green apple taste with a nice spiciness. Body is full. Lite carbonation.

(Bottled, 0.75l) Hazy amber with a medium, lacy head. Very fruity aroma with tart hints. Yeasty-fruity, neutral-malty, peppery-spicy flavor with a hint of acidity. Medium-bodied with slightly foamy carbonation. A balanced and spicy, true-to-the-style Belgian Ale.

Rare Vos pours a hint of orange. There is some fruit in the smell. It is a crisp taste of spice.

Hazy orange color, small beige head. Fruity, yeasty aroma (peach, grapes, banana). Crisp, foamy carbonation. A bit alcoholic and spicey. Quite typical Belgian strong ale made in USA: yeasty and fruity.

3/28/08 notes: bottle. Pours a clear golden amber. Head is short lasting and small. Strong carbonation. Flavor is a nice mixture of honey, yeast, nutmeg, cinnamon, and some fruit. Finish is dry, a mellow blend of flavors. Overall, solid and interesting, but I don’t understand the huge carbonation.
