ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Apr 29, 2008 Cloudy amber, reddish colour with a white head. Malty, sweet and fruity aroma with a light yeasty and floral note. Malty, fruity sweet flavor with a light dry yeasty finish. BeerEssential (96), Massachusetts, USA Apr 25, 2008 Fantastic murky red-amber colour. Starts off with a bubbly head that retreats quickly. Scent is amazing...apple with perhaps some caramel. One of the best smelling beers I’ve tried in a while. Taste basically follows the description - fruity, malty and slightly spicy. Tangy zip of carbonation and a tinge of bitterness. I didn’t have huge expectations for this beer, but it turned out to be really good. I’ll be recommending this to friends. maltdog (510), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 25, 2008 The bottle uncorkis with a gunshot report, and my awakened canine growls furiously with sleepy mock menace. Cognac-colored fluid fills my tulip, as clear as polished gems; a mere smattering of lazy bubbles condenses into a large-beaded off-white froth that compensates with defiance what it lacks in stature. Curiously feeble lace swoons exhaustedly. The beer’s scent consists equally of "tropical" aromas- melon, lychee, almond, vanilla, coconut- and toasted pinenut malt. Angular flavor showcases malty, papery, tart, and keen clove-y facets. A wild blackberry and ryebread finish glides toward the breadcrust, banana, barnyard, and extreme seasalt aftertaste. Although mediium-bodied, the liquid proves as sharp as razor blades with biting acidity and invisible carbonation. I would summarize this libation as an evenly-matched, surreal beachside battle between too-toasty malt and tart brierfruit, with suntan-lotioned livestock mooing on the sidelines... promising in pieces, yet utterly confilcting in its entirety. mickblueeyes (106), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 22, 2008 Color: Brown ale with amber tones. Off white foamy head and heavy lacing.
Nose: Nice malty nose. A pleasant toasty graininess and a touch of soft grapefruity hops in the back.
Palate: Velvety texture and medium weight. Caramel, toasted grain, pleasing malt. Touches of candyish sweetness and vegetal notes on the finish. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Apr 21, 2008 Updated: May 1, 2008On tap at the Colgate Inn. Pours an orange-amber with a small white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, some light flowery hops. Reminds me of a witte- lots of spices (corriander and anise star)and light citrus fruits. Finish of a buttery roll, kind of salty (but in a good way). A great session. Very drinkable. afireinside96 (817), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 21, 2008 bottle. pours a cloudy amber color with a generous tan head. smells of oranges, cookie, yeast, and light spice. taste is biscuit and citrus. amazing mouthfeel, full but not heavy. very drinkable. slightly bitter hoppy finish. for a fairly cheap American interpretation of a Belgian style it is quite amazing. jeremytoni (1072), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Apr 21, 2008 From a bottle poured dark amber with a good amount of head. Nice sweet flavor with a good finish. Pwn3d (1040), Manhattan, New York, USA Apr 20, 2008 Updated: May 1, 2008I thought i rated this a while back, i guess i forgot. I don’t remember the specifics but it pours a mean head and has a fruity nose. Taste is good - somewhat spicey and malty.
Will rerate soon.
