Commercial Description:
Rare Vos is flemmish for "Sly Fox," and the name of one of Brussels’ great cafes. It has a sweetly fruity malt character and yeasty spiciness. A fine dose of yeast permits the beer to mature and mellow in the bottle.

Another quality beer for Brewery Ommegang. Pours a golden brow with a big resliant head. Smell and Taste are a quality belgian ale with all the subtle flavors of quality Belgian Ales. I would be happy to have a Rare Vos at anytime, but on the other hand there is not much to distinguish this from other quality Belgian ales.

Bottle. Amber color with nice head. Earthy amber malt aroma, Belgian yeast, fruits. Fruity, earthy flavor, nice ambner malts, a bit of caramel, yeasty. Crisp, with restrained hops. Ambers are not my favorite Belgian style at all, but this is a very good example of one.

Sherry, vanilla and clovey licorice nose, hints of dough. Deep orange, slight haze, soapy medium head. Horehound sassafras syrup with peppery spicy bitterness, superbly balanced. Huge lively carbonation, medium body, spicy finish with warming alcohol notes. Refreshing beer with just the right amount of complexity and depth. This is one of those great anytime beers for geeks.

Pours murky amber with a 1 finger, creamy, white head that has great retention and leaves some lacing.. Aroma is banana, spice, grass, lemon, a little citrus and yeasty bread. Flavor is peppery yeast up front, light herbal notes walnut flesh, dusty citrus and some mineral notes toward the finish. Gets slightly medicinal as it warms, but not to a level where it really bothered me. Palate is medium bodied, fairly dry, lightly carbonated and a little chalky. Pretty good stuff, I was expecting better, it’s a little flat on the flavor profile, but still pretty good.

Solid easy to get Belgian ale. Pours a golden orangy like color with a medium head that laces the glass as you drink. Aroma is not strong but reminds me of spices and mild hops. Flavor is nice, starts out sweet with some mild citrus nots, then you get the hops finally the malts and alcohol. Palate last for a little while but the the alcohol is a bit over powering compared to smoother belgiums

Pours a murky red/brown with two fingers of stubborn head. very active carbonation. Spells of piney hops, fruity with pineapple on the lead. Tastes reminds me of my first blue moon, berry out front with something resembling coconut. Mouth is medium bodied and medium carbonated. Pretty good stuff. I don’t think I would actively seek this out and it won’t make my six pack club, but good no less.

Big bottle. Deep golden color with a bit of haze, medium white head. Aroma of yeasty dough still rising. Starts off with malt, then a bit our sourness toward the middle, and a hint of nutmeg late. Slight bitterness and more spice in the finish. Nicely complex.

[2390-20090801] Sample. More house grainy yeast aroma. Slightly hazy, medium orange amber body with a long-lasting foamy white head and nice lacing. Tasty toasty yeast flavour has a long mild fruity aftertaste. Medium body is a little boozy. Very drinkable, nicely balanced.
